Crowder has played the 2, 3,& 4. I think that when he first got here he played moastly at the 2 and 3 with really little play at the 4. He's a 6'6 block of muscle which allowed him to match up for spot minutes at the 4 and to bull over smaller guards at the 2. Now he plays at the 3 & 4 exclusively and it looks like he is playing mostly at the 4. At 6'6 despite his strength he can not play the 4 effectively for extended time. Same with smart, when he plays sf. The problem is with Smart and crowded playing out of position against good ompetion they are getting beat regularly. Add to that IT at point and now they have to cheat off their man to cover for IT. That's why ITs man doesn't score significantly more, ITs man sees the additional mismatch with us playing a 6'4 sf and a 6'6 pf and makes the smart pass.
Our best line up is a series of mismatches waiting to happen:
Pg IT - 5'9 - just too short, player just shoot over him.
Sg Bradley - 6'2 - playing optimal position, undersized but makes up for it with great D.
Sf Smart - 6'4 - strong tough defender but at his height he is a a disadvantage defending the 3. Ideally he should be defending the point not the 3.
Pf Crowder - 6'6 - strong tough defender but at his height he is at a disadvantage defending the 4. Ideally he should be defending the 2 not the 4.
C Horford - 6'10 - finesse big, losses physical battles, but his technique lets him win matchups. Ideally he should be defending lthe 4 not the 5.
Right now crowder is being targeted in the mismatch more than usual.
Basically what I'm saying is that the crowder we liked wasn't playing power forward as much as he is now, so I'm not really down on him. I want to see how this roster turns out after the draft and free agency. I expect we'll be able to match up more effectively next year.
