* 4 seasons ago, Doc Rivers wanted out of Boston because he didn't want to be a part of a rebuild, so bad that he accepted a 'trade' to LA to get out of dodge. He bailed...for what was perceived greener pastures.
* 4 seasons later and Doc and his staff are watching the 'rebuilding' Celtics in the Semi-finals while they sit at home wondering about the future of his franchise, which more than likely will have to be a rebuild.

I wonder how President/Coach Rivers feel right about now.

I don't understand the hate for Doc.

He coached us to an NBA championship, and nearly another.

He was nothing but a class act during his tenure here.

He had an honest conversation with Danny about not wanting to be part of another rebuild.  Who can blame him? He suffered through several years of poor basketball here before striking gold.

We got a first round draft pick out of his departure.

We replaced him with a great coach.

I still like Doc a lot.  He seems like a real honest, good guy. Was really happy when he coached here.

100% with you, always liked doc when he was coaching here thought he did a really good job getting the big three to play so well together great chemistry from game 1. Then when he left we got a coach that was better for a young rebuilding team and we got a first round pick what's not to like.

Hate is a strong word and I don't think I used the word hate anywhere in my dialogue as there is no dislike towards him as a person whatsoever, however, he was under contract and in MY opinion feel that he bailed for better when the big 3 broke up.  Instead of seeing it as a challenge he went with what he thought was a sure thing.  We got lucky with Brad, but I really lost some respect for Doc for wanting out after he had won the chip and saw struggle ahead.

Doc leaving was not all Doc.  There were discussions and there was some degree of mutuality between Doc and Danny, the dynamics of which are known only to those two guys.

Also, this was not just about Doc not wanting to coach a second rebuild with the Celtics.  Doc was ready for more responsibility and had a desire to make personell decisions...to be a GM.  He moved up the ladder and probably has no regrets.

With 3 superstar-caliber players along with a 3x 6th-man of the year player for 4 straight years and couldn't make it to the WCF. Now I call that overrated!

Personally, I really liked Doc as a person and thought he was a good, not great coach. The decision to leave turned out to be a good one for both teams. His teams have been in the playoffs the past few years. Yet, competed in a much tougher division than us. So, can't fault him for lack of success there. He's also had the worst luck when it comes to injuries....Chris Paul and Blake Griffin come to mind.

One added bonus is he got to have his son play for him. That, in itself, would be like winning 5 NBA Championships for any father. Can't get better than that in the basketball world.

My main complaint about him in Boston was his inflexibility when it came to player rotation. The starters would finish the game no matter how well any member of the second unit was playing.

In what was supposed to be a competitive game, Doc Rivers let Paul Pierce start during his last game in Boston.

That's what I'll remember about him.

Yeah seriously.  Some people need to grow up and not take everything so personally.

Sorry. You don't get to sign a huge long term contract, quit, and then dictated people's opinions or emotions.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
It is Ironic. I like Doc as a person and he won a championship as a coach. But Brad is a better coach. Having KG on your team will always help you be a better Coach. He did win coach of the year in Orlando. But He is probably 15th coach in the league at moment, IMO.

No you didn't.  I used that term more liberally here, to all those who have an ax to grind with Doc. Did not intend to twist your words.

What is there not to understand. Folks hate Doc and think Isaiah Thomas will be great off the bench. Perfectly reasonable positions, all of them  ;D ;D ;D

And before people gloat about how poorly the Clippers are doing in Doc's tenure, it's probably worth recognizing that if they were out here, they'd probably play in the ECF every year.
