Wow, that snuck up on me. He's been REALLY good lately from deep and it would be phenomenal if he can shoot this well and improve beyond.
I'm loving his form and his composure on wide open looks too. He has laser focus when defenders are closing out.

34% from deep 127 attempts. Not bad for a rookie that had 'shooting concerns' entering the draft.
Very good sign for us indeed.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm encouraged by his performance. He looks confident, his release is quick, and he's shooting an excellent 44% from the corners. However, Marcus Smart shot 33.5% from three on 272 attempts in his rookie year, so I wouldn't get too carried away yet.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

And Reggie Miller shot 35.5% his rookie year, so what's your point?

It's early to judge, but I'd think the difference in attempts and quality of players in their respective rookie years speaks to Jaylen's ability to score within the offense, accurately even within the half-court, at an early stage.  If he becomes a monster in transition, his ceiling will be high.

that we shouldnt read into a rookie year 3 point fg percentage.

Id say that is a pretty good point

Good point indeed, TP

I've noticed in games he typically makes his first shot, often his second, then misses 3rd, etc. Seems most of his first 3 attempts are from the corner where he is most accurate.

Sometimes feel the reigns have been put on him by Brad, both in terms of playing time and play calling. Hoping he loosens them up next season; for example giving him more opportunities to create his own scoring, particularly on drives where he can draw fouls. He will need to keep improving his foul shooting. Could be the difference between being a 15 ppg vs 20 ppg scorer eventually.

He's capable of much more than 3 point shots and alley oop dunks.

Brown's form is excellent, and he is getting better and better at shooting threes.
I love when he defends the three also. He jumps so high that some shooters miss the basket completely.

If you told me our unskilled, no shooting 6'7 sg/sf who weighs 225 and is 20 years old would shoot 34% from 3 his rookie year, I would have been ecstatic. Not to mention finishing was a concern, yet he is shooting 45% from the field. His defense is further ahead than my dreams also. Does he make rookie mistakes? Of course. Is he full of plays that make you go "wow he COULD be special one day?" Also a resounding yes.

He has completely bought into the team concept, and is basically waiting for his "turn." Great pick by Ainge, and he is quickly becoming my favorite celtic for his style of play on the court, and his attitude off it.

Edit: Sorry for not having the best layout of sentences lately. I broke my phone after 2 years with no case, and I mostly post from my phone. Sorry if I am hurting anybodys brains with bad sentence structure.

TP, I actually refered to him in conversation the other day as my favorite nba player to my friend (a knicks fan.) He is going to be so much fun to watch going forward. A few of my friends (none celtics fans) think he has shown enough upside to warrant consideration over Ingram.

have you watched Marcus Smart shoot since his rookie season?  or just Reggie Miller highlights?

You may lose your lunch.

Marcus is in a bit of a bind. For a point guard, he has no explosion whatsoever on his first step. He has learned to keep his dribble, use picks and look for space in the lane, but there isn't a guard in the league that is worried about him blowing by them. Defenders can keep a hand in his face at the 3 point line and still keep his dribble under control. His best feature is that he's a decent passer, so he usually has some on the ball pressure. Teams have learned that he can make a three when he is wide open, but can't shoot at all when he is defended. When he was a rookie, teams were willing to play off him. They know better now.

Jaylen, on the other hand, has all the tools to blow by anyone he wants and finish over the rim. He just needs to gain more experience making decisions in the lane, and learn to anticipate where help is coming from a bit better, but he's a smart kid. That is just a matter of reps. I'd be shocked if he isn't an elite offensive player in 3 years.

But Marcus can successfully post up any PG in the league.
I wish they would do it more.
Brad needs to watch videos of Oscar Robertson.
