People should probably read the article. It's not nearly as bad as OP made it sound.

I’d love for him to stay on the West Coast where his brothers could see him all the time, most of the time. We’re a big family. That’s the only difference, but like I said, my son will play for any team on the fact that his goal was to make it to the NBA, so it doesn’t matter what team he plays for.”

TP. Like Paul Pierce would've said any different before he was drafted if he could speak his mind. This is not a Ryan Leaf situation.

Saw him on ESPN First Take, a few weeks ago. He is very West Coast vs East Coast. Kinda sad people still think like this.

Lavar seems like a competitive man. Sounds like everything is an "US vs. THEM" kinda thing. Sometimes it's healthy to be competitive, but to your point I don't think you can have that mentality applied to too many facets of life.

With all that being said, being born in NYC and living here my entire life, I totally embrace the East-West Coast rivalries, NY + CALI vs. Fly-Over States, Northern States vs. Southern States, Urban vs. Rural, Suburb vs. Inner City,  etc.

Of course I don't embrace any violence, but I do enjoy the entertainment, the jokes, the professional rivalries. All in good fun.

For a while I was really high on Lonzo, but after see and hearing Lavar...I'll pass. We don't need to inherit a pain in the axx.

Honestly, I hope his son gets picked by Orlando.

He also said Danny was a tough player..."for a white guy."

I guess he gets a pass on an ignorant racist statement like that, because well...
Wow, I don't like the Danny comment.  I guess Lonzo is pretty soft for a mulatto.

What if the Celtics have the 2nd pick and the Lakers want him? :-) Wouldn't this be a chance to fleece the Lakers to grab a pick or player to swap spots? The Lakers don't need Jackson or Tatum.

To bad.   If he is the best player on the boards when the Celtics pick, pick him.

Maybe some distance from his father will help the player.

(not that his father seems to be holding him back)

I would like to see Fultz become a Celtic and Lonzo Ball a Laker.  It's pretty obvious that's where he wants to go.  Good riddance.  I don't know why, but he just looks awkward to me even when he manages to make the shot go in.  Just not really a fan of Ball so I'd be glad to see him go to LA.

Don't hate me now, but there's definitely a small part of me that wants to see the Lakers get the #1 (or even #2) pick just to pass on Ball.

I could see Lavar at the draft show, already running his mouth and wearing a Lakers cap, talking about how the next great Lakers dynasty is about to start with his son.

"With the #2 pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select Josh Jackson from the University of Kansas"

Cut to the look of disappointment and disbelief on the Ball family.

I would enjoy that little bit of drama.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Just a dad that doesn't want his boy across the country. Everyone wants to hate this dude for his other comments. and I don't blame them, but after reading the full story, its kind of a non starter with me. I don't really want Lonzo Ball to be a Celtic either. He's probably a bit of a nut like dear old dad. And, we are stocked at guard. That being said, I think we are taking Fultz with No 1 either way. I think he has a higher likelihood of being a generational talent anyways.

Seems like a perfectly normal father thing to say, which is a first for Lavar.

Great words from a great man

I seriously question Lonzo's ability to get a shot off against athletic and long defenders that will be in the NBA.  The amount of times he appeared to be almost blocked on the collegiate level and he also lands very awkwardly I wouldn't be surprised to see him having ankle issues.

This is a deep draft, I could see coaches and GM's making a decision based on his loudmouth father's desire to see him on the Lakers, and his fathers continual hunt for notoriety in the media, and just pick around him, choosing another talented player in this draft.

No GM wants a Lavar Ball second guessing him in the media, or conspiring to get him traded to the Lakers.
Honestly, if I were the Lakers, I pass too, OR seeing since his dad has now boxed him in as to where he'd like to play, and low-ball him on his contract.

Again, I'd love to see him taken by Orlando...far from his father, and his beloved Lakers, on an organization that has little historic weight in the NBA.

Exactly. Look at IT, his father wanted to him to be a Laker and he wanted to go to LA as well. Players are allowed to have a favorite team that aren't the Celtics. They're allowed to have dreams of playing for their favorite team.

What if the Lakers pass on him? That's the funniest scenario. Imagine his head exploding.
