The instant gratification folks aren't going to like that.

I think Bulpett is spot-on and I think its become more & more apparent since last summer that they're trying to set themselves up in "have your cake & eat it too" mode wherein they can be very competitive now & set themselves up for even greater future success without much sacrifice to either.

And do it on the cheap.

I'll say this for Ainge: He's set up a team for greatness - Milwaukee.

I'm sure they are thrilled with Ainge's talent evaluation - Greek Freak, who some analysts project as the transcendent NBA star of the next five years; can't believe it's not Jaylen Brown. LOL - Brogsdon. I bet they can't wait to see who he whiffs on this year.
last I checked there Skippy, Brown's having a better rookie season than Dunn who was your preferred pick this year.

Boom goes the dynamite! TP King! That was awesome! # Dunn Sucks!
TP back at ya.  there's a reason he never goes on record with what he thinks should be done.

I heard Dunn's already like 40 years old.

As soon as I read the article and the OP's post (which I AGREE with also), I just imagined @coachbo would drop the dynamite in here.

I was right there with him, and likely wrong (not the 1st time, or last).  Very happy with Brown.  But it's also important to take into account aspects of the teams (quality of players, coaching, general player development) that drafted each player.  While Brown was probably the better pick, I'm sure Dunn would benefit from being in Boston.

I think it would be a bit of an over-simplification to suggest that this year's playoffs aren't pretty important, though.   Aside from the simple fact that playoff games == $$$$$ to the organization, getting as far as they can in these playoffs serves to Danny's advantage both from an asset trade value perspective and from a 'attract free agent to winning team' perspective.

Oh, they're definitely important & its a no brainer that ownership would appreciate as much additional gate & exposure as they can.

It's just that this team isn't in the midst of one of those "last hurrah" seasons or reaching a make or break point yet.

It's a helluva luxury to have.

TP for honesty To Tarheels, I was in the Jamal Murray camp. Loved Brown's, body, Athleticism, strength, but felt he was raw for the third pick.

I'm happy now so TP to Ainge. Murray will be a very good player, Brown's more versatile if he he gets it together.

I've been thinking about this; I call it "the dark side of the fast rebuild"—Ainge has been so successful in this rebuild that things have progressed much faster than expected, but with that comes the expectation from many people that the team will keep improving full-speed ahead, with no temporary plateauing at any point. I have to keep reminding myself that the team is ahead of schedule, so if the team falls [b/]short of a title this season, that's not a true letdown.[\b]

Simply winning one playoff series would mark continuing progress. It'd be nice to win some games in the second round too. But really, it's not ECF or bust. These guys haven't done Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. yet.

I agree that winning the first round would be progress, and that it's not an "ECF or bust" situation. It's been a fast rebuild, for sure, but there's no "circa 2008" KG or Pierce on this team, so I can't expect too much.

I often find myself wishing we were more like the Milwaukee Bucks, a team that in the last 15 years has won between 30 and 46 games 12 times, with a total of six playoff appearances- all of which ended in first round exits.

Instead Danny has the Boston Celtics stuck on the TREADMILL OF MEDIOCRITY.

I liked Brogsdon during the NCAA season last year. But lets face it-he got drafted in the 2nd Round because quite a few people overestimated other players.
Jaylen Brown doesn't get consistent meaningful minutes. Give him time.
Who did Ainge whiff on-Marcus Smart?  Avery Bradley?
I wanted Giannis Antetokounmpo! But we didn't  get him.
Ainge may strike out from time to  time,  but he is one of the better GM's.

Keep swinging Danny! Keep swinging.

You can only have your cake and eat too for so long before you cause more harm than good to either path.  The time is quickly approaching where Boston needs to take a clear direction and make the moves necessary for that path.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Not sure what you're referring to.  Seems clear that Boston is likely improve this offseason by way of trade (Butler, George, etc.) or free agency (Hayward), and could potentially retain the BKN picks.  They're loaded with youth, vets under contract for several years (expecting AB to be traded), and an offensive star.  Where does the need come from to hit the panic button?  Their direction seems very clear to me.

Yup. Just noting the blessed passing of the Mickey Era and replacing him with a rookie with NBA talent will be an improvement. Adding free agent help too means we upgrade this offseason as much as last year when we added a #3 and Horford. And that's without Danny pulling off any trade shenanigans, which is the likely route to balance out the roster positionally with role players. Some good, serviceable bigs should be available without mortgaging the farm.

My guess is that Smart goes instead of Bradley though. I'd rather trade Smart and a future 1st than Bradley.
