obviously take this with a grain of salt. Who the hell am I?

But im just thinking, the Cavs look terrible, we could have had anybody we wanted

With Durant ailing and Warriors not looking as good, we could have made a great run this year.

Now on the other hand Ainge can make a good pick up in the off season and we will look good for years anyways and cleveland looks like they are not going to get any better

i just feel like if we had paul or jimmy, this team would be a favorite vs the cavs'

not saying we still wont give the Cavs a good fight and potentially win out

Neither Paul nor Butler move the needle that much. Boogie Cousins, well that is another matter.

The Cavs will look like the defending champ Cavs come playoff time, and GSW will be fine, Durant will be back.

Even if we had traded for Butler and made the finals I seriously doubt we'd beat the Warriors with a healthy Durant. I think the plan is to wait one more year, have Golden state's depth depleted by losing Iguodala, Pachulia, and Livingston to salary cap restrictions, and making a run then with a deeper team. 2018-2020 looks to be the window. (Maybe longer if we draft Fultz and he turns out to be an allstar)

Neither George or Butler were really available.  If you wanted to give up 2-3 of Bradley, Crowder, and Smart, yes, we probably could have gotten one.  But then you're left with a worse team that certainly stands no chance in the finals.

People need to let it rest and enjoy the season.  Maybe we'll get past the Cavs anyway, or they won't make it to us.  Or maybe they'll turn it on in the playoffs like all LeBron teams (with some help from the refs) and blow us out of the water, showing that one of Butler or George wouldn't have mattered.

Enjoy the team we have, not the one we don't.  Otherwise, what's the fun?

The Pelicans are a .500 team with Cousins. Did he move the needle much for them?

Yet another starter of a poorly thought out, useless thread.  Congrats.

@anyone that thinks that danny is doing a poor job, just try to name another gm in the history of any game that has made a trade that got his team top 3 pick two years in a row for two guys that retired

I dont love the "Danny Ainge messed up" thread title because I dont believe that he did.

First, we dont know what Chicago or Indiana was asking for.
Second, a lot has had to go right since the deadline for the championship to look so attainable.

Injuries to Love, Lowry and Durant along with the Cavs looking as vulnerable as ever were not particularly likely to happen at the deadline.

Also, its hard to tell just how much Butler or George helps us midseason. Its hard to add a star to your team in the middle of the season. There could have easily been some chemistry mishaps that left us outside of the 1 seed.

All that said, I do agree with the premise. Chances at a title are really rare and if we could have gotten Butler or George without really gutting the current roster we could easily be the favorites to come out of the East right now.

Still, the Cavs are likely to right the ship come playoff time and even with Butler/George and a hobbled Durant the Warriors would be heavy favorites against us.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Its an interesting topic.

I myself have been thinking, if we lose in say 7 games to Cleveland, does it validate Ainge for sticking with his guys or does it shine a light on Ainge letting an opporunity to pursue a title pass by.

I mean not making a move at the deadline was 1 of 3 things.

1. We are more than one piece away aka I dont believe in this core
2. We dont want a 3 year window of decent chances at a title. We want a dynasty. aka basketball hubris
3. We wanted to add a guy like Butler or Goerge but prices were too ridiculous.

hopefully it was #3.

Adding Cousins to a team with an All-star team already is different from adding Cousins to a team in need of frontcourt firepower.
