Simple trade question... would Utah and Boston swap Favors for Bradley?

You have a better chance at swapping AB for Noel and a protected 1st. Jazz are doing well and it would take more than AB to get Favors if they were looking bad. Something like AB, KO and a non Nets 1st.

I think this is a good trade, but more of an off-season deal than an in season trade.

Utah won't move Favors until Lyles is ready to take over for him, and I don't think Lyles is ready yet.

Favors is a perfect compliment to Horford imo.

It makes sense for both sides if we're giving up on cap space.

A year ago, this was a different question. Now, no one know's if Favors will ever be the player he was. He has chronic lingering knee issues. Now, Bradley is the more valuable player.

Bradley gets injured a fair amount too, but its important to not that nothing that has happened to Bradley so far should affect his long term athleticism. That's definitely not true of Favors.

Ainge loves Bradley, and rightfully so. No trade!

Altogether?

2017-18 difference in salary is $3.1M. I get that Ainge in unlikely to trade an expiring for a marginal vet with a cap commitment next year. This is different. Celtics will still have cap space and could easily move a player or two to make up that $3M this summer.

Utah has Hayward, Hood and Hill. I think they need Favors more than Bradley.

Right, but Utah will try to retain them. Dealing Favors for Bradley makes it more likely they walk.

But why?

Hill = PG, Bradley = SG, Hayward = SF. Hood = 6th man.

Hood is good enough to start, and they've got Burks / JJ off the bench.  They're a better team with Favors.

Favors to me represents a player with limited appeal in today's NBA, in which the top teams have 4/5's who can handle the ball and shoot outside. He is more a traditional power forward.

I don't think he would match up well with Horford in the starting line-up, particularly on the defensive end.

Yeah, I would say that a deal like this makes a lot more sense if Utah can not come  to an agreement with Hill and feel that Johnson/Lyles are a better fit next to Gobert than Favors.

Personally, I believe that a 4 that can stretch the floor is a better fit next to Gobert. If Hill is asking for too much money moving Favors for Bradley to free up time for Lyles makes sense to me.

Although if Burks and Exum are healthy/develop then the Jazz won't be in need of a replacement for Hill.

Given the right circumstances this summer I could see this as a great fit for both teams.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Before this season, I would have loved Favors or Ibaka on the Cs. This season has shown me that I was probably wrong. As AB has shown great improvement (I know, the injuries), Favors and Ibaka look to be in decline. They are both young enough that they could turn it around, but boy do they look tired on the court.
