If Love is really out and the Cavs don't get Melo, does Ainge think hard about going for a star right now?

I think this Cavs team without Love isn't as dominant even with LBJ. Plus LBJ's minutes will go up now..

Just something to ponder a bit going forward...

Are we jumping all the way to Love being out for the playoffs? That would be a really serious injury. But yea, without Love I don't see how they compete with the Warriors barring a big trade. It may make Raptors and Celtics feel like they have a better chance of winning the east, but I don't think the Love news is that serious yet.

Even if Love is out long-term, remember the Cavs easily made the Finals with him out 2 years ago. Finished off a sweep of us with most of the same players too, even though we've clearly improved greatly since.

Love got injured in the last game against us didn't he?

Sorry this is kind of silly.
Our starting power forward was Brandon Bass
Our starting center was Tyler Zeller
Our starting shooting guard was Evan Turner
Our big that played the most minutes was Jared Sullinger
We did not even start IT
We played pressey, Gerald Wallace and Gigi spot minutes in an 8 point elimination game

This current team would mop the floor with that team and that result is completely irrelevant...

I thought it was Game 3 but you're right - I remember Brad hiding Olynyk on the bench against retaliation so they repeatedly took it out on Crowder instead.

Oh yeah, we're definitely much better than the 40-42 squad, I said as much. My point was just that the Cavs without Love are still pretty darn formidable.

yeah thats about as irrelevant as it gets.

Plus they "easily" made the finals, but their series vs. Chicago was pretty tough and it was a Lebron buzzer beater away from overtime in game 4 with a chance for Chicago to go up 3-1.

Then in the ECF, they faced the Hawks who were also battling a bunch of injuries if I remember correctly.

I don't think anyone thinks they are a pushover without him. However, they are only a few games ahead of us with him and with having perfect health this year for their stars compared to us missing serious games from all of our top 4 players. This closes the gap some if he is out long term.

Quote
Cavs All-Star forward Kevin Love will get a second opinion on his ailing left knee Tuesday, and there is concern team wide that he could be in line for an extended absence.

"I would love to be able to tell you that he'll miss three games and be back, but I can't right now because we don't know," general manager David Griffin said.

He's likely to miss All-star game. To me it means 2 things :

1- Cavs, who just cut Chris Andersen are gonna try everything to get a big, which they need desperately. Bigs are definitely gonna be expensive this month.

2- They could feel their first seed is being threatened (CLE is 37-16 ; BOS is 36-19 ). Do you think they could get concerned ?

momentum wise, the celtics are rolling, playing better and better, while the cavs are cought up with injuries and not playing that well, and in a desperate need for a pg as  well as a big guy.
i don't think that the cavs are untouchable at this moment, but we are still looking for our first playoff  series win since Paul shiped out and that is a factor.

one less all star for Kelly to take down.

but seriously, the time to pounce on the Cavs is now. They still have the best player on the planet but we have the best PG in the East. A Loveless or a hobbling Love in the playoffs is a big plus for us. And if they go by Washington who is rolling right now then they will get into some trouble.  Cant wait for the playoffs to start but for now, I dont mind the team mending AB and Jaylen from injuries while still in play for that top seed.

You know what TIME it is...time to make that move. Let's go get that #1 seed

The Cavs can't make any moves.
