It's Memphis' first-rounder, not Denver's own. Pick is probably in the early 20s. Still, didn't realize just how old all the Plumlees are until doing a little research on this trade.

They got Nurkic PLUS a 2017 1st? Is there some weird protection on that 2017 first or something? I mean , Plumlee is not that great of an asset, I would think getting Nurkic alone or the 2017 1st alone for him is a steal.

From the Celtics perspective, I would have tried to trade for that 2017 1st.

Very good trade for Portland.  They weren't going to pay Plumlee in the offseason and they get Nurkic cheap for another year.  Getting a 1st in this strong draft (currently 21st) is a bit of a shocker.  They've got 3 1sts now so they can make some moves.  Maybe they have another trade planned now or maybe they move up a bit on draft night.

Denver gave up a 1st to get a chance to overpay for Plumlee or possibly lose him as a half year rental.

No weird protections. It's something like top-5 protected this year, but Memphis is making the playoffs so that won't come into play. It'll just be Memphis' own pick this year, wherever it may fall in the late teens or early twenties.

Two teams in the same division who've been neck and neck for the #8 seed all year, will be interesting to see if one of them can break out a little after this.

Yeah, I think that's the most interesting thing about this trade.

I agree on this part... plus get a 1st

Plumlee is a more proven player though...  non stop motor

Portland improves.  Not sure what Denver really gets out of this?

Plumlee plays a more similar game to Jokic than Nurkic does, so you can run a lot of the same stuff with Plumlee backing up Jokic instead of needing a whole different system for an offense featuring Nurkic in the middle. I think it's a lot to pay for Plumlee, but I at least get it.

One less big the C's could go for, but I see why we wouldn't want to dump an asset into this when Zizic is looking like a carbon copy of Nurkic who's two years younger.

I know that their Euro numbers similar but the tape makes me feel Zizic will be the better player. More fluid.

Key is will plumlee be in denver when contract ends?  He is going to be overpaid by someone else.  Half season rental and you give a first rounder?
