So obviously 34 is going up the rafters.

But I'm watching the Warriors-Thunder game right now and the crowd (admittedly, one of the best crowds in the league) absolutely hates KD. The boos are relentless. It got me wondering where his jersey would be retired. On one hand, he won an MVP with OKC. On the other hand, he might win a ring with the Warriors. Let's say after 5 years, KD wins 1 ring before he moves on to another rising team (Wolves?). Now, he definitely doesn't have the "tenure" requirement of a guy like Pierce/Dirk nor the cultural impact of a KG.

Would KD's jersey be retired in OKC with his MVP? GSW with a ring? Both? None?

KD's time in OKC is marked with failure. Let us not forget they he also blew a 3-1 lead last season. also whiffed in the finals against Lebron in 2012.
Hes probably gonna get his jersey retired in GSW because of his sissy move by choosing them in free agency.

I hope he never wins a ring tho, the next Barkley alongside with Melo

Lol same here. It seems unlikely but I wish they never win a ring.

What has he accomplished with the Warriors to warrant this? People think KG shouldn't have his jersey retired here.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

The bar to be a Celtics legend is a lot higher than OKC.

Unless he comes back to OKC no chance. Couple of rings in GS will do it there.

Durant is in the top 5 of almost every single statistic in Sonics/Thunder history and basically the few he isn't he is in the top 10.  Hard to imagine he doesn't get his number retir3d someday

Nah. He'll hang his jersey in GSW.
He's already burnt bridges with OKC. Tonight's commotion set it to stone.

That being said, hope KD35 doesn't win a ring with the Warriors.

Jersey retirements aren't just stats. It's a commemoration of all you meant to the franchise. Durant dropped a giant turd on that when he left. He should have it retired somewhere though

Time heels wounds.

OKC should definitely retire KD's number. It'll happen.

Jersey retirements aren't just stats. It's a commemoration of all you meant to the franchise. Durant dropped a giant turd on that when he left. He should have it retired somewhere though

It's also about marketing and filling seats.  There's a reason some guys get their number retired the next year (the unquestionable greats of the franchise), and there's a reason why it takes some guys 5, 10, 15 years to get their number retired.

For Cedric Maxwell, it took the C's 18 years after he left the team and 15 years after retirement before they retired his jersey.

For Dikembe Mutombo, it took the Nuggets 21 years after he left the team and 8 years after retirement before they retired his jersey.

For Wilt Chamberlain, it took the Sixers 23 years after he left the team and 18 years after he retired before they retired his jersey.

Durant will get his number retired in OKC eventually (just like I feel Ray Allen will get his jersey retired in Boston eventually), while a guy like Pierce will get his number retired the next year.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Impossible to say right now. There's going to have to be a lot of time that goes by before OKC is even ready to consider the notion, and we have no idea how long his GS tenure lasts. My guess is that he sticks around with the Warriors, they win a couple titles, and you might even see Steph/Draymond/Klay/KD all go up at the same time. It's also technically possible that Durant moves on after a year or two and isn't really a candidate for retirement in GS. This one just needs time to play out.
