I don't see anyway the Bulls would do that.

I'd be fine adding the Clippers first and our 2018 pick (with some type of protection) to that package. Even if we added 2 more firsts I think it would still be a steal for the C's.

Because they want to sell high. Because he's a bad leader...Because he is a volume scorer...Because he is an overrated defender...

That package is not selling high. They could have gotten a lot more than that on draft night last year. At the very best that package is selling low before you believe the asset will bottom out, but  I don't agree that Butler's value will decrease in the future.

Just to be clear, this is not a trade rumor, just one that he said works for both teams. Personally I am not a fan of giving up 2018 Nets pick for Butler.

Per Kevin Pelton:

"Bulls send Butler to Boston

Boston Celtics get: Forwards Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson

Chicago Bulls get: Guard Terry Rozier, centers Amir Johnson and Tyler Zeller, Brooklyn's 2018 first-round pick and Memphis' protected 2019 first-round pick

View in the ESPN Trade Machine

Even if the Raptors get Millsap, I still think the Celtics might be a bigger threat to the Cavaliers if they can get Butler. Not only that, getting a player in his prime (Butler is 27) and under contract sets up Boston to contend for years. I'd be willing to surrender any non-starter and any draft pick besides the 2017 Nets pick to get Butler.

That might not be enough for Chicago in reality -- I could see the Bulls holding out for this year's Brooklyn pick, which is virtually certain to have the best chance at being No. 1 overall in a strong draft -- but in my fantasy world, the teams make a deal that also sends the Celtics Gibson, an impending free agent who strengthens a Boston frontcourt weakened by the loss of Johnson."

I listened to that podcast it was the Dunc'd on podcast where the guys were doing a mock trade deadline. Nate Duncan who was the Bulls GM said that he wouldn't accept any trade for Butler without the 2017 Nets pick which I think everyone would agree with.

No way they do that deal, I agree that the nets have no avenue to improve, but the Bulls lose a year of rebuilding without the 2017 pick

I have to think that CHI would want more.. But if you can keep the 2017 Nets Pick and trade Bradley, that would be a great deal for me and something CHI might take too if they want to ship Butler and know the 2017 Nets Pick is off limits. As much as they supposedly like Rozier... I doubt that's fair value for Butler, come on now.

I doubt BOS can keep all of Smart/Bradley/IT after 2018, so Bradley may end up being the odd man out.

That being said I don't imagine a trade happening for Butler at all.

Don't think it works for both sides.

I really like the fact that Gibson would be part of the trade. Takes care of the rebounding at the same time. For a trade like that you can give Brooklyn 2018 imo. 2017 is 100% sure of being a super high pick, but oyu never know what next year could be like.

If Brooklyn has a few surprise wins, players emerging and if another team is tanking this can quickly become a potential 5-6 th pick and lose value. So use it while everyone sees the nets as a #1 pick machine.

2017 is already fine in terms of future stars with what we've got in Brown and Smart. Do it if you can

That's pretty slanted toward the Celts. Not ridiculously so, but we get the better of it.

I would do that trade in a nanosecond. It would likely require an additional trade or signing of big men though since the C's would be shipping out 2 of them.

I thought those podcasts were good, but I wish Pelton had more active as the Celtics gm.

Wait, what?

We get to Keep the 2017 pick (high pick in a deep draft), Brown, and Smart? That 2018 pick is not guaranteed like this years. They might be the worst team this year but look at Philly this year after getting the worst record in 15-16.  I don't think it can get much worse for Brooklyn.

I doubt Chicago does this deal anyway so it doesn't matter.

The Nets' 2018 season looks just as dismal.  Unlikely to get a big FA signing given the new CBA.  In addition, the top end of the draft in 2018 fits better for our long term needs than the 2017 draft. It has several incredible bigs who are lacking in this draft.  I do not give up that asset easily, certainly not for a Jimmy Butler.  Seems like most others disagree with me, though.
What if New Orleans trades Holiday and its 1st for Brook Lopez (just as an example)?  That 1st might end up pretty good and Holiday could easily re-sign in Brooklyn.  What if the Nets then overpay for someone like Noel in free agency and continue to get growth from their younger players.  Sure the Nets won't make the playoffs in that scenario, but could certainly be better than the worst team in basketball.

You don't give up the 2017 1st for Butler, but you would be crazy not to give up the 2018 1st, especially when keeping all player assets.  Of course that is why Chicago would never do that trade.  ChiTown needs more than just the 2018 BKN pick and the Memphis pick to even consider trading Butler.

Why the heck would NOP trade for Lopez?!

Even if it was AB, AJ, Rozier, and those same picks for Butler and Gibson I'd still take the deal. Butler is a top 20 player and no telling where that 2018 Nets pick would end up. I know Butler isn't a franchise corner stone guy but there are very few guys like that. The team would look great going into 2017 summer. And could make another pitch to KD.
Starters=IT, Butler, KD, Crowder, Horford
Bench=Smart, Nets 1st, Brown, Yab, Zizic

The bench needs vets but starters vs starters that team destroys the Cavs and Warriors if KD makes the right decision. And the bench features 3 guys picked in the top 6 or better developing, yikes.

I don't think any of those are true Brown and Crowder talk about how hard Butler plays in work outs, his motivation talks as well. Also he used to play hard on defense until ask to be the scorer. Similar to IT who also used to actually be decent defender stopping even the best ball handlers in their tracks. Both their defense have almost evaporated since being the guys. I'm sure on this team Butler would return to his old habits because he has scoring help.

Seems too light a package for a 2nd tier all-star on a very good contract. Adding one or two 1sts like the Clippers and Memphis picks seems more appropriate or using the 2017 BKN pick instead of the 2018. That's a 25% shot at Fultz with a 20% shot at Ball and I'm not as high on the rest (yet). Also, the Bulls look at getting into the playoffs as their primary goal, not championships, and they can probably squeak in as is. They're not going to settle for a package as light as Pelton's.

Chicago says either:

1) No

   or

2) If the most valuable asset you want to give me is a 2018 pick, then contact me in February,2018.

We should throw in Bradley and have Butler play the 2 again.  Then we draft J Jackson.  Ungh
