To me, that 2018 pick could be more valuable than the 2017 pick, because the 2018 draft is much stronger up top with bigs, which is our biggest need.

Too early to tell if those bigs are even good. There wasn't any hype for this draft class...This is a historic drafty class, enjoy it. Drafts usually stink.

Its too hard to predict an upcoming class since they are still in high school but by all accounts the 18' class isnt on par with the the 17' class by far .... yes there are more bigs but only Deandre Ayton will be an impact ... There are a few raw prospects but since the Celtics have Zizic I really dont see that much of an impact for this team

Much too early to tell how strong 2018 will be at the top of the lottery, which is probably the only thing that matters to us.

Early indications are that there are probably less premium prospects as a whole, but the ones who are at the very top may be even better than Fultz or Ball (Porter, Ayton, Doncic).

Who knows what happens in a year though.  Nobody thought in February 2016 that Markelle Fultz would be the runaway #1 pick.

Well the overall class of 18 is not as strong as 17 so it will get more hype but I would argue that the top 3 picks in the 18 draft have more potential than the top 3 in this draft. I have questions about Porter's D but man the guy is lethal on all three levels on O right now. Doncic can do so many things at a high level and Ayton, well lets just say if the light is turned on this kid by far is better than the 17 or 18 prospects. He reminds me of a stronger potentially meaner version of David Robinson with his ability to run and shoot.

All excellent points. I would add that while Im not as sold on Ball as many here are, there were legit questions of if he would even translate to the college game because Chino Hills is extremely unique in their playing style.

With the influx of <24 year old big men in the league, it would be a disaster to not be able to grab Mohamed Bamba or DeAndre Ayton with this pick.
Disaster also means trading it for anyone not named Cousins.

Then again, i'm in the "wait till LBJ retires" boat. In no hurry to contend now.

This why I feel this pick may be the more valuable to the team, while the 2017 could potentially get us a stud perimeter player, our perimeter game seems on point... adding that perimeter firepower this year and then the next a dominant big that can at least shoot a midrange J, we could be looking at being a powerhouse for years.

Luka Doncic has come out of nowhere and is putting up some very respectable numbers for a yet to turn 18 year old. Looks like a rich man's Evan Fournier.
The HS season is nearing the end and no one has really stood out as a stud with any kind of consistency. Will have to wait for the all-star games and camps to see who got real game.

Thanks for responding to this. I was just looking for this trend. Anyways for those who would like to see Ayton play can watch him online at tangersports.tv Friday and Saturday. I dont remember the times but if you are crazy like me you might want to check it out. Im hearing since Hoophall he has been playing with more aggression so we will see.
