I'm trying to understand those 2 front offices.
I remember telling myself when I saw what they did last summer "well that won't work at all, what are they doing". So I told myself that they were doing that for the year tickets, trying to fill up the arenas.
The problem is, they are now worse than when they started with their roster, cap space and atmosphere in locker room.
My question is : How on earth is possible that 2 incompetent GM or FO can do such things and handle million dollars responsibilities.
We are not GM, scouts, nor we have medical or personal info on each players. Yet we all almost knew in advance that this kind of "reload" doesn't work !
I can't imagine the bashing of Danny if he ever try to do something close to that.

And yet we get two new Melo trade threads here every day.  No more trades for washed up vets.

The bull and knicks both took the quick fix to compete option. This is very common in the NBA some times it works and other times it completely fails. The Celtics are a prime example. When the big 3 where assembled DA took a gamble that KG, PP and Ray could all adapt their play to fit each other while a cast of role players was assembled around them. This style of team building throws the door wide open to contention but can easily slam shut. The Nets tried a very simulate approach when they mortgage their future to construct a Nets "super team". We all know this failed wonderfully.

The Knicks are stuck in a tough situation. Their fans and the new york media have a false entitlement that comes from their belief that they are the mecca of basketball. I know numerous Knicks fans who every year think every big name FA wants to play for them simply because they are NY. The knicks front office and GMs have all either bought into this idea or have felt forced to believe this in there handling of the roster. Where a well run franchise would have hit the reset button and allowed a GM to build from the foundation up the knicks always seem to look for the easy way. The knicks fans are the teenager who put a wing and an exhaust on a civic and thinks they have a sports car only to find out it cant perform. A competent GM and ownership like the Cs would have left the roster flexible (never given Melo a no trade) and gone with a total rebuild after hitting on KP. Rose was a wasted trade, Noah is a terrbile signing, Lee was a waste of $$, and Melo's no trade is a joke. All done for the sake of making NY fans think they have something special when at best they where a 1st round playoff loser.

The Bulls are different their front office is simply in post Thibs damage control. They took a perennial playoff but not championship contender and tried to add a new couch to invigorate the offense and it failed. This season they thought the could put out a respectable short term project build around the short signing of Rondo and Wade. It has failed and they are left at a cross road they likely ends with a tear it down rebuild.

To be fair, I don't think Melo is the problem there. It's the supporting cast around him and the front office/owner.

1. They probably should have just let Melo leave instead of giving him that deal to begin with. Can't fault the player for taking that money. That's on the front office.

2. That roster is a disaster. The Noah contract is a travesty.

3. At this point, they should just try and offload those players as best they can for pennies on the dollar and go full rebuild around Porzingis.

Maybe I didn't express myself properly.
I get it that they were trying to be competitive. But it was incoherent specially the Bulls.
What makes you think that Rondo, Butler and Wade will coexist? One would be too naive to think so. I mean come on, Butler just got problem with Rose, Noah and coach. Rondo had trouble with his 2 last teams. Wade and Rondo don't have a friendly past together.
Wade has a washed up knee and can't practice much.
I mean how many bad signs it takes to see the full picture?
And like I said, we know nothing. There are probably worse data we aren't aware.
As for the Knicks, Noah's contract says it all. Nothing to add to that.

What saddens me is the waste. Fans give their little money to be entertained by there favorite team and they get THAT in return. Sad...
