From a fundamental point of view, I'd happily trade Smart in the right deal. But from a fan point of view, I'd miss the guy. I love watching him play. The guy goes all-out.

Okay, Jimmy Butler: I haven't watched him except when the Cs are playing, so I don't know a ton about him. Could he and IT exist on the same team, or would they both need to have the ball?

Celts should make a big splash. As much as I want to have a dynasty - which is within reach - you don't get to 2nd in the conference and say, "meh, we won't win, we suck."

Come on!!!

Could this team beat a Cavs team with a Kyrie or Love injury? Potentially. Could this team + Melo (minus a couple non-essential guys) beat such a team? Definitely. Could they beat a full-strength Cavs team? MAYBE! Not out of the question. It would be a battle.

When you have a chance to crack open the window without simultaneously shutting the door to the next room, why not do it? In the Melo scenario, we don't lose our big draft assets or top player assets.

Meanwhile, Al Horford is not getting any younger. IT is in his prime, but how quickly will he be back down to earth if he loses a step of his quickness? He won't be our near-MVP PG for years and years to come.

Give this version of the Celts a real chance to be great. See how it goes. And keep nurturing your young assets.

He is certainly ball dominant and lives from the free-throw line (not unlike Isaiah), but Isaiah is good off-ball and Butler is competent enough a shooter that I think it could work.

Ive got no idea what the price would be, but you have to imagine Brooklyn '17 would be the foundation of any deal.
