During the Pistons game, they asked Kevin McHale about Melo to Boston.
He said no, he'll be a bad fit for the Celtics.

Here's a link to the actual video.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I don't know if you guys saw, but they were discussing if Ainge and the Celtics should target Carmelo Anthony. Most of them said no, but Chuck thinks BOS should really make a big splash for *someone* to secure #2 in the East and battle with Cleveland, and Kenny and Shaq believed they should do that as well.

I mean... Do they not realize that Ainge and the Celtics likely know they won't win a championship this year, and maybe not next year either?

The goal should be, IMO, develop young guys like Brown/Smart, extend IT+Smart, draft with next two Brooklyn Picks, and package Bradley + future picks for a legit, young big who can REBOUND, and see what FA is available this summer (who knows? Maybe Hayward does like Boston? Or Noel?). Then as players develop and picks hopefully begin to contribute, the Celtics can enter an era of long term contention while hopefully Cleveland and Golden State cool off 2-3 years from now (with the $$$, both teams can't afford to keep a good bench, and LBJ is getting older).

Yes I hope the Celtics keep the #2 seed and CBS gets chosen to coach the ASG as well (recruitment purposes as well with IT lol..), and I hope they make the ECF (show progression this season). Also I would like to see Ainge make a small move for someone like Nurkic or Bogut. But in reality this team still is not a legit championship contender, but they should be hopefully 2-3 years from now.

What do you guys think? Agree with what I'm saying?

I agree we don't need a "big splash" but not because we can't contend.  I think we're close enough that a minor move like Noel or Nurkic might get us there.

Both Kenny and Charles also said that Carmelo would be a bad fit, so take that for what it's worth.

@Androslav

Kenny Smith is easily my fave too.

I don't know if it is because he played PG or simply because he is more down to Earth than O'Neal and Barkley. But he is the one trying the most to have an actual conversation instead of saying something spectacular in the hope that it will be reproduced in the internet and generate controversy.

What Barkley et al care most about is watching a fun ECF in 2017. They could care less about banner 18.

Like much of TV journalism and analysis, Inside the NBA is addressed at the lowest common denominator. They rarely if at all make nuanced arguments because if they did, TV ratings would go down.

Is it fun to watch? Sure.

Does it give insights about how NBA FOs think? Little if any at all.

True all this .....you know Sir Charles well  :D

it seems like with every post i see

Im starting to love Ray Allen more and more and realize how right he was and how wrong Celtic fans were. Actually how hypocritical they are.

Now Bradley becomes the guy who needs to go and Smart becomes the guy we need to extend.

Funny.

I love Smart, but I would deal him in a Giffy for the right deal. It's not that he sucks or is not good, but he is not a superstar and If you give him even the 2nd or 3rd best player on a team, the team will not succeed. Unless you think Smart will become a good scorer.

Bradley is already proven. Can light it up and can defend , rebound, but he is the guy you want to package. Good job Bradley , all that hard work and this is what you get.

BUSINESS!

I would have no problems moving Smart.  In fact secretly, I would kinda like to - I don't think his upside is very high, and at the same time I'm not overly fond of his attitude.  I can somewhat excuse arrogance if you are a superstar caliber talent who has proven your dominance (e.g. Shaq, DMC, Lebron).  But when you are a 22 year old role player who hasn't proven a thing you haven't yet earned that right - so shut your mouth and play the game.

Bradley I would not trade however, unless it was one of those amazing golden deals that you just can't say no to.  Like Anthony Davis, for example.

It would be hard for me to even accept giving him up for Demarcus Cousins, and I LOVE Cousins as a player.  Bradley is just one of those guys who managed to get under every opponents skin and makes game winning plays on both ends of the court, but he does it without ever having to resort to thug tactics (the way guys like Draymond Green and Marcus Smart do).  He just does it with pure effort and hustle and by just outworking everybody else.  He's a class act, and I would be heartbroken to see him go.

I mostly agree with you, except that Smart hasn't proven a thing. I think he has proven a lot- he is an intense player that loves playing defense. This is not something to be underrated. He is almost the opposite of Carmelo- a far more talented player that does not make his teammates better.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I'm not moving Smart, Crowder, or any Brooklyn picks for Melo.  But I think there's an outside chance we could get Melo for some combination of future Celtics first round picks, the Memphis first rounder, the Clips first rounder, 2nd rounders, Jerebko, and/or Yabusele plus Zeller and AJ.  Of course we would also need to find a rebounding/defense oriented big to come off the bench.  If we could pull that off, I think we could contend in the short term while also building for the future.

In my mind, that's the ideal situation at this point.  It's not plan A, B, or C, but the ideal situations aren't happening.  We didn't get Durant, the Kings aren't moving Cousins, and the Pacers and Bulls aren't giving away PG or Butler.  We have too many young players which include Yab, Zizic, Nader, Minny's second rounder next yeat and all those other picks.  We can't develop that many players.  We need to consolidate.

I don't love Melo, but if we can make the best offer without giving up our best assets, I think it's the way to go.  Melo was absolutely awesome on the Olympic teams when he had great players around him.  If he's added to a 50 pace win team without taking much away, along with a great coach, a great clubhouse, and hard nose players, I think there's a real chance that could bring the best out of him.

We would not be favored to beat Cleveland, but we would have a chance and would not be trading away our future.  And it's very unlikely we could add Hayward or Blake Griffin this summer any way.  If the Knicks are willing to play ball now and accept a reasonable offer, I say let's do it.

I would do the trade for Melo depending on cost. By waiting Ainge is allowing the price to drop for Melo. I'd give them our #1 next year and several players but not the Nets pick.

We need Melo to make LeBron play defense. He can't double and help others with Melo.

The trade talks in the summer involved Crowder, Smart, and both the 17 and 18 BKN picks according to that article.

Can't we offer those assets to Indiana and try to land Paul George instead? I mean, if we are giving our best prospect and our best asset, can't we go and get someone who's shown he can be an MVP candidate?

Sure and if Indiana isn't trading George you will get nothing.
