He isn't averaging an inefficient 23.  He certainly isn't as efficient as Thomas, but he has a respectable pps and TS% and that is as a #1 scoring option on a bad team with only one other quality offensive player

He can still score without a doubt but let me show you a stat.

Carmelo Anthony has the worst winning percentage for any player in NBA history with at least 50 playoff games, according to ESPN.

Anthony's teams have a 16-36 (.308) record during his playoff career with the Nuggets and Knicks.

Denver reached the playoffs in all seven of Anthony's full seasons with the franchise, but were eliminated in the first round each year except for 2009 when they reached the Western Conference Finals.

This is why we should pass on him, he is not a get you over the top kind of guy, nor has he been since college.

You know what Celtics I totally feel you, however I think Carmelo has never had a coach as smart as ours.

He's never had a defensive team in his entire career.

We need a second legit option in the Playoffs. He might be the most talented 6'8" post up, Mid range, three point scorer I've ever seen.

Plus he has the skill I used to possess down low. If he misses his shot near the rim he's going to get the rebound, cause he's mad he missed.

If he can be had for cheap you have to try it. Upside is we are in the Finals this year.

The whole playoff win thing is such a cop out. Lack of wins in the playoffs reflect more on the team building than the individual IMO. Some players are capable of winning games on their own - particularly in the regular season. This is just harder in the playoffs, games slow down and defenses lock in. CP3 has never made it to the Conference Finals, does that make him a less talented player. Heck, IT isn't off to a promising playoff start - so far only a 33% winning percentage. Doesn't make him any less of a player.

He has Allen Iverson on one of those teams so what is your excuse now?

I highlighted team building, by that I don't just mean an assortment of talented guys - talent can only do so much in the playoffs. Look as recently as the Lakers with D12/Pau/Kobe/Nash. You need a team oriented game plan. You can argue Melo should've done more with Iverson but in both the playoffs series that they played in together, they lost to better teams - the Spurs and the Lakers (who won the championship that year).

To me, Melo is a lot like pre-Big Three Paul Pierce. Talented individual player, but needs a specific mix of guys to get to that next level of leadership and meaningful wins.

I mean he made a Conf Finals in the West...

He's not finishing because he's an over the hill ISO ball guy with balky knees.

Carmelo would essentially be our PP34 if he was here, right.

Maybe, if you're lucky he's a small ball 4 Wizards version of Pierce. You want that at 25 m re year?
Paul Pierce was 37 years old with the Wizards and averaged 12-4-2. Carmelo is going to turn 33 in a few months and is averaging 23-6-3.

I'm not sold on bringing Carmelo in but that analogy is ridiculous.

His best role is as a small ball 4 who plays off ball and isn't a primary creator. A la Pierce that season.

Maybe a younger version of that? Him averaging inefficient 23 a game is not some sort of major accomplishment, he scores a lot because he shoots a ton.

His true shooting percentage is a percentage point and change than the league average. If his efficiency were an NBA team he'd be Dallas Mavericks.

And the reason he's their #1 option is that he won't give Porzingis the ball.

Not to mention he takes half his shots from 10 feet to just inside the 3pt line and doesn't finish at the rim...

By all means, do a rain dance for his return to something resembling a star caliber player.

I don't think anyone is saying he's a bad offensive player, but if you look at the top 50 scorers there are only a handful who are less efficient. His closest comp right now is Kemba Walker, and Kemba is a little more efficient. Doesn't sound like someone worth assets + $25M when you factor in defense and intangibles to me.

Well, to be fair, Iverson never won much throughout his whole career either.

put him on a team with some other scorers and he'd get so many more easy looks. he's just a flat out shot maker. His defense is fine when he's locked in.

It's his ability to score with the clock running down and hit the 3 at the PF spot that would be his strength here.
I read last season that he was #1 in the NBA in assists when he is double teamed. Can't remember the name of the stat, but if you try and double team Carmelo, he will find someone and they will get a good shot.

That's why he'd be excellent in our system. People call him a ball hog which is true when he plays for NYC, but he doesn't have any other scorers.
Anyone here see him play on team USA?
There's a reason Lebron wants him on the Cavs.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Exactly.

Look up some id his YouTube highlight videos.  Every one ive seen features at least two or three nice passes that led to open shots.

The man will pass if he has team-mates he can trust,  and if his teammates get open.

If he himself had a good shot then sure he'll take it.   He's one of the best scorers in the world, why wouldn't he?

Before Boston, Kevin Garnett was 17-30 for a 36% win percentage in the playoffs with 1 WCF appearance.  If you take that season out when the Wolves went 10-8, Garnett was 7-22 or 24% in the playoffs.

Was Kevin Garnett a loser before Boston?

I think it's important to remember his coaches in Denver were Jeff Bzdelik, Michael Cooper (interim), and George Karl. Since he moved to New York he has had Mike D'Antoni, Mike Woodson, Derek Fisher, Kurt Rambis (interim), and now Jeff Hornacek. The only stable coach he's ever had is Karl. None of them to me, seem like the greatest of coaches, although some have over performed in certain situations (D'Antoni this year in Houston, Karl with the 2013 Nuggets). Now looking at when he's played in the Olympics, his first one he earned a Bronze with Larry Brown. Then he's had a tremendous coach in Mike Krzyzewski for the next 3. Now I don't know if you guys have watched him play in the Olympics, but he's a different kind of animal in that setting. Looking at this from a coaching standpoint, it makes me think that coaching has a huge affect on Melo and how he performs. Also, wouldn't the Olympic teams be some of the more stable and competitive teams he's ever played on?

Stop with this Olympics nonsense, international bball is not the NBA.

Kenneth Faried was the best player on the court in the FIBA world championships, and he's a backup on a bad team. Carmelo is not a top 40 NBA player at this point

Melo looked good on the Olympic team. Cousins did not.
