People are actually complaining that the celtics didn't sign Larry sanders?
When we lose several games in the playoffs due to lack of rebounding and interior defense, there will be many people complaining about this.
And when people see every day the uselessness of Mickey, Young and Zeller, none of whom will be on this team next year, they want their asses gone (yeah, zeller has to stay for trade purposes) and replaced by ANYONE, especially bigs.
Of course this assumes that Sanders can do anything? Sanders could come in and be so bad he never gets off the bench.
I think he's unlikely to do much of anything positive this season.
TPs to nick and Roy.
Both you guys make valid points, but I think that we should be willing to take the risk, because the risk is minimal and the reward COULD BE (I know that's a big "could be") substantial.
Risks: 1: lose Mickey or Young and their "contributions" for the rest of the season.
I could live with this for obvious reasons: they make negative contributions. They won't be with us next year anyway.
2. Sanders reverts to his former life-style of poor weed-centered choices and has a negative impact on the team. I can also live with this risk as Crowder and Smart wouldn't allow it, give him a beating and they just cut him immediately, zero tolerance.
3. Brad gets p---ed at having to deal with a player who both isn't a spacer and has a checkered history.
Man-up Brad, this isn't the NCAA where you can recruit the players that you want to play for you and only have to take those that you have given your imprimatur to. Valuable lesson for little Brad.
4. As nick says, sanders doesn't even get off the bench, which is a possibility.
That's pretty much the same as Mickey.
Potential rewards:
1. Sanders is a force protecting the paint and getting getting big rebounds.
Unlikely , but possible, especially after some game-time just in time for playoffs.
2. Sanders gets 8-12 minutes a night to give a little depth to our front-court by someone with NBA experience.
To me, the potential rewards outweigh all the risks, and some of the "risks" even have benefits attached to them.
At worst, Mickey or Young is cut, Sanders comes in and is a negative, you cut him and sign a D-leaguer.
