Also I wouldn't trade Crowder unless you get a SF back. I want our team to be lengthy. I hate that we're so freaking small. The 3 guard lineup Stevens continues to put out there makes me want to vomit. It's been statistically proven that is the Celtic's worst lineup.

I read a poster say that no team would take Horford on his contract.

I just like to see if there's any realistic options of players that teams would love to dump and possibly a young asset or two for Al Horford.

 Any ideas...

Horford or his contract is the last thing weighing this team down.

We must give it a chance with this team. So big NO to trading Horford for this and next season at least (to be polite).

Horford will not be traded, but if he was on the market, any number of teams would make sense for various reasons.

Philly for Saric, Noel or Okafor, Illyasova, future 1st
Minny for Dieng, Lavine, Pekovic
Detroit for Harris, Morris
Utah with Smart for Favors, Hood, Burks
Chicago for Lopez, Gibson, 1st
Milwaukee with Smart for Parker, Monroe, Snell

I'm sure there are plenty of other potential trades
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

First there is no way we can get Parker imo. He's really good. Ainge won't pay the price and I don't believe Horford and Smart are enough.

I wish Ainge would offer him for Noel. Noel would be an cheaper alternative with better defense at the center position.

Danny is pretty good at shipping his vets off to good situations and he would all the more need to do this with Al, given that he just signed as their big FA.

But if Danny can find a spot for him on a contender, he'd have the chance of looking like he was treating his new FA well, while having a chance to peel off some young talent paired with an expiring, for example, from that contender.

But also, I think there's a risk of IT going if the team continues to fade.

The Utah and Philly trades won't work. Remember Horford has 26 million in salary. Philly's whole team won't get to that.

Philly and Utah are both under the cap, you don't have to match salaries.  Both those trades work on ESPN's trade machine.

With the exception of the Bucks trade these trades would all be absolutely devastating for the Celtics. Horford is clearly the best player in all the other deals and many of them are of the 2 dimes and 1 nickel for a quarter type of deal. Worse, just about all of these players (Lopez, Gibson, Morris, Harris, Illasova) are at their prime or past it and few or none of the young players suggested (Favors, Hood, Saric, Burks, Okafor, Noel) have any all-star potential. What would be the purpose of doing one of these trades?

When we signed him we committed to him. He's staying for at least 2 years

Horford does everything he is supposed to do (expect rebound more efficiently)...
High percentage low post shooter, FT%, passes well for big man, can step out and shoot the three, block shots...

Problem: HE IS PLAYING OUT OF POSITION... hes too old and a bit to slow to play the 5, not to mention in most cases undersized... His contract is fine, Im sure he will continue to slightly regress in the upcoming years but thats the price you pay with a rising salary cap...

Huh? He's played the vast majority of his minutes as the 4, which is out of position for him. And he's been terrible at the 4 defensively, because he just doesn't have the foot speed to cover out on shooters or the ability to effectively guard high PnRs.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

They are rebuilding trades, which would be the whole reason you would trade Horford if you were going to.  You get some young players/draft picks for your past your prime aging veteran who won't see an all star game again either (so your critique of players you think won't be an all star does also apply to Horford).  The Chicago trade is much more about their 1st this year than Lopez or Gibson, but at least you get some quality front court depth in that trade.  You are underselling Hood a great deal in the Utah trade, and Favors is still an effective player (though his injuries have slowed him a bit).  Harris is a pretty darn good player and both he and Morris would easily start in Boston post-trade.  Philly you get two nice young players, a future 1st (which could be very good), and a nice veteran PF who is a pretty good player.

Think of it this way, if Horford was on the Hawks and being shopped, what would the Celtics give up to acquire him?

No clue about Horford, but I think the one below would work.

Celtics receive Philly's second round pick  protected for selections 31-59 in 2035, 31-58 in 2036, or else unprocted in 2065 as well as cash considerations.

Philly receives our most knowledgeable blogger on Embiid to become chief editor of Liberty Ballers.

Why is Thomas almost the leading scorer in the NBA this year? Why are Bradley's, Thomas', and Crowder's shooting percentages all up? Why is our offense one of the best flowing offenses in the NBA?

But let's just trade Horford. You know who might want him? We do! We want Horford! We want him for his IQ, for his ability to make every player on the court better, for his defense in the pick-and-roll, and for his defense in the post. We want Horford.

A team like us would probably we willing to trade a starter like Crowder, a prospect like Rozier, and several future firsts for him. But we are not stockpiling more assets. Why would we stockpile assets like Bender or Chris when there is no guarantee either will ever make an all-star team? We don't need more assets. We have all the assets we could want. We need guys who can play in the playoffs, compete for a championship, and honor the Celtic tradition. Horford does that, and he does it all the while we continue to stock-pile assets.
