If the Pick is #1, no question, it's untouchable and you take Fultz.

If the pick is #2, you take Ball, but I'd consider moving it in a deal for Butler, PG13, or Cousins if the other team is really interested in taking Ball at #2.

Fultz - He has the skills and talent to get open at will. Being able to create one's shot is unusual enough in the NBA, never mind in college. Not sure he's franchise material, but he seems closest to that in a draft that I think is a little overrated.

Jonathan Issac...from Florida State University

(Celtics fans boo and complain we drafted the wrong guy, when the pick actually makes sense)

No, it doesn't.

Issac is currently the #8 player on Draft Express. I haven't seen him higher than 4th and most have him somewhere between 7 and 8. So even if the pick "makes sense" from a fit standpoint, it doesn't make sense from a drafting standpoint because you're leaving significant value on the table.

Let's say that you want to get Issac and you want to be conservative so you move to #4 to get him. That means the team moving up needs to offer much more in order to get to #1 to grab Fultz. I'm not sold on Issac (he had a good week but I'm not a bandwagoner) and even if he's the right guy for this team he's not #1 material. The best teams fit the best talent into their schemes but you first need talent and Issac isn't the most talented guy in the draft at this junction.

I will GUARANTEE you that Isaac WILL go in the top 5 of this draft and likely in the top 4!!!!  We also ONLY have a 25% chance of getting the #1 pick IF the Nets have the worst record!!!  Therefore, we are likely picking 2, 3, or 4.  It will not be a REACH by June and I worry that someone us takes him before us!!!

Have you watched this young man??

Smitty77

Have you?

I live in FL. He's on quite often. Nice stroke, good leaper, good ball skills since he was a 6-3 guard a couple of years ago. The downside is he's weak, skinny frame and poor defensive positioning.

You can "guarantee" all you want but I'll take the consensus at this stage which is that he's a fairly high boom/bust prospect. Fultz, on the other hand, is the closest to a sure thing in this draft class with off the chart potential.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I thought there would be more Ball votes, but it appears people have been paying pretty good attention to both players. I'm in the Fultz camp all the way. Legit top 5 player potential for me.

I've heard this draft called exceptional and potentially historically good, but this is the first guy I've seen who has suggested the top two (Ball and Fultz) are a step above everyone else and might be transcendent talents:  https://deanondraft.com/2017/01/23/how-good-is-this-years-draft/

Also, I've now read multiple draft experts who have said Jaylen Brown would go outside the top 10 if he were in this draft.  Kevin O'Conner thinks he'd go 7-10.  So safe to say even if we miss out on fultz and Ball we will be adding this franchise's best hope of a future Allstar.  Unless Brooklyn digs themselves out of the bottom 10 somehow, I guess.

Going with Fultz.

Looking ahead, I think Fultz-Smart-Jaylen can be a special trio moving forward.

Most people have Fultz and Ball ahead of everyone.  And 13 of the 15 GM's that Chad Ford just polled have Fultz ahead of Ball.  So while we could get a great player no matter what, there will be some disappointment if we don't end up with Fultz.

Dennis Smith Jr. should be the pick. All of them are good just think he has athleticism on another level along with elite handles and vision. He's just got the it factor of a superstar already when you watch him and will dominate in such a pick and roll heavy league.

I agree about where Brown would go, but people have to stop using this article lol. The guys evaluation of talent is so out of whack. Look at his prospect rankings for the last few drafts.

According to the authors prospect rankings, he has Wiggins below the following players: Okafor, Gordon, Exum, Ingram, and Deangello Russell. Now granted he has an argument that the rest of the players on the list are better so far than wiggins, but those 4 are unexcuseable. DAR has regressed as the season has gone on, Exum isn't even better than Smart at this junction, Gordon is all potential and no substance, and Okafor is racking up DNP-CDs (or he was)...... I want to listen to the guy, but this is just absurd.

In a comment at the bottom, the author actually refers to Wiggins as a bust. I don't know about most here, but a 3rd year player averaging 21, 4 and 2.5 on 45/34/73 isn't a bust. Is he an amazing superstar world beater as some hyped him to be? Of course not. But we can't just throw around the B word because players haven't lived up to the hype.

For all of you convinced that Fultz is the clear #1, note that the writer in LB's link has Ball as #1.  I'm still sticking with Ball.  Fultz is the most complete player at this point, and the safer pick, but I don't think he has the same upside as Ball or even Smith.

Ball seems to have more of that Larry Bird/Magic Johnson leadership quality than Fultz. Fultz seems like he will be a great scorer, but I wonder if he can lead a team like Ball seems to be able to. For that reason, it would not surprise me if Danny rated Ball higher than Fultz.

I am curious as to why you think he doesn't have that high of an upside? His athleticism is such that it won't limit him in any way. And in terms of every skill except passing he already has a huge lead of Ball.

Finally someone joined me. It was getting kind of lonely as the only person who voted for Ball.

Look at the body control, ball control and ball spin on this highlight from the Arizona game. A couple of nice passes showing off his court awareness. Shows off his ability to protect the ball going to the rim like IT often does. Keeps the ball moving to keep the defender from blocking it. The spin off the backboard is Rondo esque. Shows off his range and his ability to shoot it off the dribble from three which is huge. I don't see any problems with him getting that shot off in the NBA. He's very crafty.

He's by far the most enjoyable player to watch in a long time.
