Is Drummond good?  Serious question.

OK, he's a great rebounder, but is he really much better than, say, Tristan Thompson?  He's not a good finisher, he doesn't block that many shots, he's a terrible free throw shooter, and it's unclear if he really helps a team that much on defense.

I suppose a lot of that is probably situation-specific, and maybe he'd be better on a more talented team.  Still, I'm not sure his actual value is in line with his reputation.

I don't believe he is, no.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

What's your definition of good? He's one the 2 or 3 best rebounders in the league. His advanced defensive metrics are above average. He blocks shots and gets steals. He scores 15 a night on good efficiency, and is an elite finisher on the pick & roll.

He's a lousy shooter, a true dunk & rebounder monster. He's big in a small man's league. He's no MVP. But not good? By what measure? How many good players are there in the league, then?

Whatever Danny and Stevens think he is worth.

His value to the team depends upon what Stevens plans to do with him. The same is true for the value of the players we choose to trade or not trade. I'm willing to give up as much as Danny thinks we should be willing to give up.

The potato chips sound tasty but energy drinks have a net negative value.

You guys are crazy, Drummond is a top 5 center in the NBA. Only players better are Towns, Cousins, and Jordan. I'd probably give up the 2017 pick for him.

He's only 23.

Drummond's combo of size and leaping ability is off the charts/elite/freakish. He basically gets all those rebounds by just outjumping the opposition. Other than that:
* Poor motor/motivation. This was a red flag already at the draft, and haven't changed.
* Weak mentally. Starts pouting when things go bad, which they routinely do against better opposition. Zero leadership potential. No clutch gene.
* Poor BB IQ on both ends. Bad positioning. No anticipation. Bite pump fakes too easily.
* Doesn't use his body when rebounding. Just outjumps opposition. Imagine what he could do if he used his strength properly. But the fact is he doesn't like contact.
* And of course cannot shoot; the worst FT shooter in the history of the NBA.

In summary, thanks but no thanks.

He doesn't fit our teams style of basketball. Ole fashioned back to the basket center who can't hit free throws.

You can't be all and every style of basketball, you choose one, and build.

no thanks

I have no idea what exactly would be the goal of the Pistons in dealing him. They have a few guys for big $ and all fairly young and decent players. If there was a fire sale then I could see a Drummond deal of AJ, Zeller, Nets and C's 2018 1st picks. But in a traditional trade meant to add something that improves them in the short term there isn't much C's could offer them.

PG they have RJ. Not a bad player
SG they have Pope is finally playing well.
Sf Tobias locked up
Pf Lauer C's have no PFs to upgrade this.

Hard to see a direct C's and Pistons trade unless as I said above its a fire sale type deal.

Drummond is a powerful inside presence--what the Celtics lack. The ultimate rim protector.

However, I don't think Ainge/Stevens value such a player to give up what the Pistons would want in trade.

They knew what they wanted when they signed Horford--a versatile big who can do a bit of everything. His problem is he isn't really a dominating player--scoring or rebounding. IT is the more dominating in scoring, and they have no dominating rebounder. A guy who can go out and get 10-15 rebounds every night.

Horford and Drummond are both averaging about 15ppg. Drummond is averaging about twice as many rebounds pg--13.3 vs 6.8.  When your best big is averaging only 7 rpg, that is a trouble sign.

This is very much not true.  Drummond is actually a really poor rim protector.  I don't have this year's stats, but last year opponents shot 52.4% at the rim against him.  To put that in perspective, opponents shot 52.8% at the rim against Tyler Zeller last year. He also doesn't block many shots for someone with his athleticism.  He gets tons of rebounds, particularly offensive rebounds, but that's really all you get out of him.
