I like TR, I like the fight in him.
His shot is slowly improving, he is athletic, and he doesn't strike me as a quitter.
As a playmaker, I think he has a long way to go.
I think the "1 and D" path is the shortest route for him to become a rotational player on any NBA team including ours. Think of Delly, Patrick Beverly, I can really see him picking up the defense by his 3rd year and the 3pt shot could be at 35-37% by that time (on a median 3pt rate). I say this because there is an increasing number of bigger ball handlers in the game and it is trending up IMO. Guys like Harden, LBJ, Giannis, D.Green, and Simmons. That would leave even some starting PG jobs available for those PGs that are not that creative or have that great feel and rhythm of the team offense. Hey, who wouldn't like a new Penny, Grant Hill or Magic, guys that can do everything but are a head length taller.
His future is heavily dependent on the other roster moves.
If we draft a guard then he is superfluous.
If we look to trade for a big he is a nice chip to put on a table.
Realistically I don't expect him to be a playoff rotational player this year. I do like him, especially those sky high rebounds of his.
