Take a step back from your Celtics fandom and consider the experience of the average NBA fan.

Consider how many teams have been bad, and in turmoil to boot, with constant roster and coach turnover, for such a long time.

Now think about this:

It appears likely our favorite team will do all of the following this year:

- Win 50+ games
- Have home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs
- Win a playoff round
- Challenge the second best team in the conference in the 2nd round
- Hold the rights to the pick with the best odds at the #1 overall pick in the draft

Oh, and we also get to watch one of the greatest seasons ever by a player under six feet.

Try to remember that the next time you see the other team get that third offensive rebound in a row and you want to howl and throw your TV remote across the room.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
People in this blog really do not remember how much they howled and whined, about the departure of Kevin Garnett, and Pierce. Yes, it was saddening, and as a Celtics fan who followed the team from 04, and seeing how much has changed, we are truly blessed as a franchise.

We're the only team that as you said, has home court advantage, could end up potentially in the ECF, greatest shortest player to have ever played, and inadvertently still have enough assets and picks, (one of them being the top 3 pick,) to trade for any superstar that teams want to trade.

I'm pretty sure if we overpaid and blew out the entire treasure chest for PG13, and even Cousins, we could definitely get them.

I love this team, and will enjoy watching it for years to come. As long as Ainge is our GM, and Stevens is our coach, I have no doubt we'll succeed in many of our ventures and win plenty of banners.

Is the glass half-full or half-empty?
It's based on your perspective, quite simply
We're the same and we're not; know what I'm saying? Listen
Son, I ain't better than you, I just think different

Seriously.  Some here will be disappointed if we win only 50 games.

But take our opponent tonight -- when was the last time the Wizards/Bullets won 50 games?  Go look it up.  Now understand that the Wizards, and their historic mediocrity (seriously, go look it up) are 19-19 on the year, have $100 million committed in salary next year, and their third best player is a hitting free agency.  The best they can do is bring this .500 team back again next year and pay the luxury tax to do so (which won't happen, as their owner has publicly refused to pay the luxury tax on more than one occasion).

That's what fans of most NBA teams have to go through when they talk about the "treadmill of mediocrity" (have you looked up the last time the Washington basketball team won 50 games yet?) It isn't what the Celtics are experiencing, at all.

This is always my point on this blog.  People keep complaining about not being a contender, needing a superstar, IT should come off the bench, Horford isn't worth his paycheck, Brad needs to start Jaylen and Mickey for development...

Sometimes I feel like I am listening to sports radio on here.  Yesterday on Felger and Mazz, Mazz says that you need a top 4 or 5 guys to compete for a championship.  So that means there are what - 2 to 4 teams that should even show up every night?  What's the point in having a league, or an 82 game season, if it's just about 4 or 5 individual players and what team they are on?

Yes, it is true that NBA finals winners have All-NBA talent on them.  Some of that talent is known (Lebron, Durant, Kawhi) and some of it is not (IT4?).  There is a first time for every player to get to that level.  You have to play the games to find this out.  I am not saying that the Celtics are there, but isn't at least fun to watch to see them try?

Nothing is preordained in life.  In 2009 the Celtics were clearly the best team on the planet, maybe one of the best Celtics team ever, and locks to at least repeat appearance in the NBA Finals.  Guess what?  That didn't happen.  Injuries happen.  Trades happen.  Chemistry breaks down.  Stuff happens in this league sometimes and your team's window is suddenly open.

When that window opens, you better hope whoever is running your franchise, your coach, and your players seize that opportunity.  Arguably there is no team in the NBA in a better spot to do that than the Celtics.
