I don't want to give up any of our main future assets for a guy like Millsap.

To me that order goes
1) Brk 17
2) Jaylen
3) brk 18

I love Marcus, but I think Millsap is the better all-around player for the the next 3-4 Years, and his age and ready to be clutch in big games fits more with IT and Horford who just signed a max contract.

Plus Smart will be up for free agency next year. I could see a team offering him a pretty large contract to start for them , is Danny willing to match that if Isiah is putting up 25/6 still?

I think its a fairly even trade.

Something like

Bos sends: Amir and Smart, maybe a late rd draft pick
Atl : sends Millsap

Maybe a 3rd team has to be involved sending smart elsewhere and a player from a 3rd team to Atl. The point is , I think there could be a trade in the making there.

Then if Larry Sanders really want to come back and play for Boston like he's been hinting , you have.

IT.     / Rozier
AB.   / Green
Jae.    / Jaylen
Millsap / KO
Horford / Sanders

With Jerebko and Tyler zellar as Salary to make another trade to upgrade the guards off the bench.

Thoughts?

No... that's essentially letting Smart go for nothing, especially if you can just sign Millsap during FA if you want to.

Also, they have Smart's Bird Rights. Yes, that's a big luxury tax if you sign extensions with current players like IT/Bradley/Smart, but I'm under the impression either Smart or Bradley gets flipped in a BIG trade.

Millsap is NOT a big trade and he's a rental. No guarantee he re-signs after this season with BOS.

The only reason to get Millsap righr now instead of waiting until free agency would be to try and make a run this year, but 1. He isn't enough on his own and 2. Trading Smart would make our bench even weaker than GSW's

I might, but I don't think Danny would.

I am a big Smart fan, but I'm not sure what his market value is. I imagine Danny likes him a lot more than other teams. If Danny could somehow pull of Milsap and another piece like Bogut, they are prob good enough to get to the ECF and attract more FA's this summer, even if Milsap leaves.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I think they would want to re-sign him--and would want some assurance they could.

I also think they should check with Al Horford's sister before they make a serious offer. Or Al, himself. I though they blended well in Atlanta, but Al may not like his center role in Boston. Whatever, Millsap can play the 4 or 5. He's one of the best. A max player they might be able to squeeze under the cap with IT eventually if they unload a player in a deal.

In fact, a deal with Atlanta could be an opportunity to make cap room for both IT and Millsap. So maybe keeping the Nets pick makes sense if they trade somebody affecting the cap.Smart's salary isn't high enough affect the cap space. It would have to be expiring contracts, and I wonder if Atlanta would be interested in any of those players: KO, Zeller, AJ. Doubt it. They'd have to throw in a draft pick or one core player.

This.

I don't really want to pa Paul Millsap whatever his market value will be after this season, given his age. The only reason to bring him in is if you think the Celtics can contend for a title this season. And I don't see it happening if Millsap is the only upgrade brought in. I'm also not sold that he's the answer to the C's problems.

It's going to take serious talent .....more like than  Milsap to draw Celtics even with a LeBron or make a run in the next three seasons. .....I give him maybe three more super hero years max

It has to be Boogie in my mind to draw even with LeBron.    George or Bulter helps .....but I'm still skeptical of even them making the Celtics able to defeat LeBron in a SERIES .  Regular game yes better than we are .

Only Boogie , A Davis brings enough to the table to overturn Le Whiner

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
No way. I'd consider it if Millsap was 28 years old but we could just sign him as a free agent instead of giving up a guy who'll be DPOY and is a crucial part of our success.

I'd do it as fast as possible so Atlanta doesn't have time to reconsider... Defensive guards with no offense are the least valuable commodity in the current NBA and can be drafted every single year.

Name 5 better defensive guards than Smart in the past 5 years.

I'll wait.

Show me proof their better, and I'll give you 5 TP's.

Nope -- Millsap is expiring and too old. Not worth Smart.

I mean he hasn't even made an All NBA Defense team yet. Eye test he does look great though. His peers don't seem to think so thus far.

Having guards that can defend is nice, but my preference is to have guards that can score and, if necessary, cover up their weaknesses with bigs and wings that can switch and make plays.

Given that Rozier seems like a capable backup guard and this draft is heavy on guards, yes, I think I'd probably offer Smart as part of a package to get Millsap.  I wouldn't expect to give up a lot more than that, however, and trading Smart would not be my first or second offer.
