Shaq was only there for three and a half years.

I undertstand Boston has so many retired numbers, but that's something to be proud of, knowing they'll be the first team in history to have triple digit numbers, or negative numbers

And also, the main thing - KG deserves it.  The reason we ended a 22 year championship drought. Probably could've played a few more good years if you didn't play his [dang] heart out in Boston. No Celtic has worn number five since he retired And none should.

The heat also retired number 23 for Micheal Jordan (who never played for them) so they probably aren't the best example.

I love KG, and he won us that championship, but I just don't think he was here long enough.  If it weren't for the Nets trade I'd agree that his number will be retired, but I just don't think 5 years is long enough.  He'll get his number retired in Minnesotta, and Pierce will get retired here, but that's it
I'm bitter.

Not sure if it makes a difference for you, but KG was with the Celtics for 6 seasons.

I think his number should get retired. I agree the relatively short length of time he was with the team is a knock. But his impact continues to this day.

KG's getting retired in Boston.

He's responsible for the single biggest culture change for the organization since Bird retired & helped the team win their first title since '86.  He had an enormous impact on this organization.  There's already numbers of guys who did less that are hanging in those rafters.

We're also now in the day & age where it's extremely rare that someone is a lifer with a single team.  They requires a re-evaluation of how teams retire numbers.

Oops, you're right, bad math by me, TP for the catch

It doesn't really make a difference to me, though.  If we had a lot fewer retired numbers, I'd agree.  But at this point, KG just doesn't really fit the criteria that I have for getting his number retired (although he might fit the Celtics' criteria)

If we switched to something like retiring last names/nicknames, though (like how "Loscy" is retired), then I'd 100% agree with "KG" being retired

I was going to mention the Jordan thing too (which I what's found strange).  Shaq and KG were kind of similar acquisitions for their organizations, but Shaw had already won a few in LA. What's more of a again here is why are the Heat retiring his number Behr the Lakers are?

KG will get his number retired here too. No worries.

What I want I want is for Brown and the next couple of Nets picks numbers to be retired here in about 20 years.
Yup
