Supposedly, NBA coaches use a simple system for ranking teams during the regular season:  Road wins minus home losses.

Here are the current NBA standings based on that system:

Warriors - +12
Spurs - +11
Rockets - +9

Clips - +7
Celts - +6
Cavs - +5
Raps - +4

Jazz - +2
Grizz - +1
Hornets - +1
Knicks - +1

Bulls - 0
Pistons - 0
Hawks - 0
Thunder - 0
Blazers - 0
Kings - 0

Nuggets - -1
Pacers - -1
Magic - -2
Lakers - -2
Bucks - -3
Wizards - -3

Timberwolves - -5
Suns - -5
Mavs - -6
Pelicans - -6
Heat - -6
Nets - -7

Sixers - -12

Huh, that's pretty interesting.  It seems like it skews toward teams that have played more games on the road, though (more road games = more oppurtunities for road wins, fewer oppurtunities for home losses), which may impact the rankings a bit
I'm bitter.

Yeah and also depends on total games. Sometimes there's as much as a 5 game difference between total games played by teams in the league at certain points in the season.

Not much of a "metric", but a neat tally. Sort of just a different way of looking at the standings.

Yeah, that too.  It'll be interesting to see how it lines up once more games have been played (like at or around the all star break)

AKA "Old School Plus/Minus" according to some tweet I read some time ago. Road wins are always always a good sign as to how well a club will do in the playoffs and "defense travels well." Ours is improving and this team is capable of getting stops, especially when AB focuses on that side of the ball as we witnessed against Mike Conley in the 4th quarter a few days ago.

Anyway, we have more home games remaining than anyone else in the NBA currently. Time to pile up some wins with 12 of the next 17 at home. Also interested to see if the second unit that CBS rolled out last night shows up soon again.

The Celtics have looked good recently. The question still remains now is if they are on the same tier as the Clippers, or are they still slightly below that tier?
