I don't know if it's Lowe or your understanding of Lowe, but it's really not a big deal. This applies to only All-NBA players and DPOY with 8-9 years of experience who are signing their third contract with the team they finished their rookie deal with. It's a pretty small pool of players every year, considering there are only 15 All-NBA players in any season, and most of them are not in their 8th or 9th season and free agents.
What it actually does is force teams with said superstars to spend extra money, pushing them above the apron into the luxury tax, and weakening their benches.
