Here is a prediction:  IF the Pistons do NOT make the playoffs this year, Van Gundy is fired!!

If Detroit continues to show virtually ZERO effort, it might happen mid-year!!!

They have ONLY won 2 of their last 7 (and the 2 wins were vs. Minny and Dallas).

Their only win in the last 5 was vs. one of the worst in the NBA, Dallas.

I think that they will make a trade of two to shake things up IF this continues.

They've been getting blown out a lot lately.  Their last losses all have been by double digits.
Not looking at all like a team some thought would challenge to be a top 4 team in conference.

I don't think Van Gundy is in jeopardy, but I do think they look to shake up their roster sooner than later.

Poor shooting and poor team defense. They don't always shoot like the night we played them.

Potential someone for Ainge to scam at the trade deadline?

Talent is not enough to win games.
They need the basic fundamentals. Hustle, discipline, play together, effort on defense, chemistry.
They probably miss a couple of the above, like most nba teams.
I'm surprised that each year, most of nba fans still put those type of teams ahead of us at the beginning of the season. People look at individual players and rank teams.
If it was that simple...

Van Gundy. Any team shaking things up means rotational guys who might fit nicely with us becoming available, cos Ainge knows a guy who has what your looking for

Like Harris? Morris? more undersized guards? I can't think of a single piece they have that I would even consider. Drummond is not getting traded in a billion years either. Baynes might be a nice back-up piece...

Baynes would be awesome in Boston!!!  He has the 9th best defensive RPM among centers this year!!

Since Jackson came back. Coincidence?

Jackson is still trying to prove he is worth his contract, but he is still working his way back from injury. Percentages and assists are down.

Harris and Morris struggle to stay engaged in the game unless they are getting touches, which is difficult with a high usage point guard like Jackson.

On top of that, Drummond is not as good as people think. Not yet, at least. He is far too inconsistent to build around, which is one reason why he only gets 30 minutes per game and SVG invested 13 million a year in backups for him.

I think Harris could blossom into a star in an open offense like the Celtics. I wanted him last year. I'm not sure if he is worth giving up cap flexibility for.

Detroit's guards aren't really undersized so Boston probably isn't interested.  Ha.

Drummond is a clear upgrade and I think Harris is an upgrade on Crowder, but he isn't enough of an upgrade to be worth the cost it would take to acquire him.  Morris may also start in Boston, but he isn't really much different than Olynyk.

That said, if they would move Stanley Johnson fairly cheap, I'd absolutely want to take a flyer on him.  He still has immense potential which seems to be lost in Detroit.

As for the question in the thread, Detroit lacks a #1 scorer and may not even have a #2 scorer.  If they slip up defensively they just have no way to really get back into a game.  Now perhaps when Jackson is back up to speed health wise some of those issues will be rectified, but until then, if they can't beat you in a 90-89 type game, then they have a hard time winning.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

How can you honestly and with a straight face say Harris is an upgrade on Crowder??

Crowder is 9th amongst SF's in RPM and Harris is 25th.

https://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/RPM/position/5

Crowder is 12th in WINS and Tobias is 13th.

https://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/WINS/position/5

Crowder is 13th in DRPM (defensive RPM) and Harris is NOT in the top 40!!!!

Enough said.

Maybe not.  Harris is making $11 freaking more million thiis year alone!!!!

Come on Moranis!!!

And Crowder has started the year with a significant career best in 3 point shooting, which has given him a crazy disproportionate OBPM.  While Harris has struggled a bit in the weirdness that is Detroit.  It is a small sample size.  Last year Harris outperformed Crowder in virtually every metric and he is 2 years younger.  Crowder has a way better contract, but you don't account for contract when you are trying to figure out who is better.  I expect Crowder to regress more to his norm for shooting, which will negatively affect all of those ratings and expect Harris to play more to his norm which will positively affect all of those ratings.

Talk about a buy low. As an aside, Detroit is bad because Andre Drummond is egregiously overrated. That's an oversimplification, of course, but it's true.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.
