I live in the Boston area so have the ability to watch every game on CSNNE or national broadcast.  But I am missing more games mainly because work got real busy for me the past 2 weeks including working from home at night then turning around and getting to work at 6:30am.  Huge project deadline this Thursday and we already put out a press release that it would be done this year, so it MUST happen.  As far as game watching, I basically am missing the road games, especially in further western time zones.  For example, I missed the OKC game and will miss the SA game.

But an interesting thing has happened.  I don't miss it all that much. I have watched enough of this team to predict wins/losses accurately.  I know their weaknesses.  I feel like I am waiting for DA to make a roster move, but I may have to wait a few more months.  It's not as much fun to watch this team, except to see the player development.

Another point is that watching sports on TV has become a progressively smaller part of my life.  I used to watch about half of the Red Sox games and Patriots games, plus nearly every Celtics game.  Now I don't watch baseball or football at all.  Life brings many other things for entertainment and general interest.  I'm a homeowner and a family man.  Science and politics are taking up more of my brain energy lately, and I love being outdoors as much as possible.

Anyone else feeling this way?  I love the Celtics and will never give them up, just not entertaining enough for me until there is a roster move.

I'm with you.  Some of this stuff can be overanalyzed to death.  It's better when you are out there living your life and puts it more in perspective and then when the team does what you thought they would or even better sometimes it makes it even more sweet.  I think listening to the internet and too many ideas is a detractor in ways.

I really find the internet to be a time killer more than anything.  It hasn't enhanced my life as much as people will lead you to believe.  Too much media and marketing out there.

It's a long season in general. There are what 82 games?  Nothing is going to happen today I don't think.  Teams win soem and lose some.  Go through droughts.  There is too much analysis of these things.  Jaylen Brown's first 100 shots are being analyzed lol.  That's a bit much if you ask me.  Not everything has to be put under a microscope to that degree. Live your life and enjoy it any way you want.

What's nice about the nba and the media is there usually is something on or to read about if you want to do that.  I hope the nba doesn't shorten the season in that regard.  I think the drama and agendas get a bit out of hand sometimes.  Oversaturation isn't overly good either.

I wish it were that easy.

Never been addicted to anything (nicotine, caffeine, etc) but I just can't not pay attention to them, especially when a game is on.

The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

OP, Surferdad thanks for sharing.

I hear you man.  As a fellow home owner, family man and outdoor lover, your story sounds about right to me.

I have given up entirely baseball, college football and college wrestling. Will probably give up NFL when Big Ben retires.  Too many other cool experiences available and so little time....

I am an avid TV watcher had about one show a night that I watched on TV, but Trump as soaked up all my attention that I almost watch politics exclusively now. I believe this is part of the reason Trump won this election. People are just drawn, not by his politics, but by his entertainment factor. Say whatever you want about out next president he is not boring that is for sure.

Is Trump good drama or bad drama though? haha.  It's like reality tv to me. I could never get into that. I'm with the guy who said he likes the outdoors.  Still love my sports though. I don't watch football or baseball much anymore though.  Basketball yes. Those were my 3 sports growing up.  The Celtics keep me enthralled.

I can at least laugh at some of the stuff Trump does. Other stuff is a bit out there though. Hillary was just as bad though imo.

I work in IT so I'm on computers enough otherwise.

Interesting responses all, and glad to see some feeling as I do.

I meant to add one more thing:  I am watching less TV these days in general.  If there isn't an east coast C's game on any given night, I might not watch TV at all.  I don't watch any regular weekly TV shows, hate reality TV, news is over-the-top, not a lot of patience for movies (can also watch movies other ways than TV) and generally despise all commercials.  Besides Celtics games, the only things I enjoy are documentaries about the universe, or NatGeo.  Otherwise, I see TV as a vast wasteland and really a dying platform.  I can do much better on YouTube or Netflix.

Pro sports team also playing too many "games", regarding personnel, injuries, etc!  What happened to the old days when players played through minor injuries, and finely conditioned athletes didn't "need REST" because of the rigors of playing back to backs, or three or four times in a week?  They're small things, but added up detract from fans enjoying their favorite teams or sports.
As many have stated or inferred, as you get older, you start realizing there are alot more important things in life.  We're not around that long and you have to treasure the more important things in your life, so as to not look up one day and see how much you missed!

I am in a similar situation.

Every weekend i went to watch at one game live , sometime 2 or in the same day. Plus a couple on TV. During the week i watched 3-4 games , if there was an interestering NBA game i stayede awake to whole night .....

Then i move abroad. I thought i'd miss going to watch footbal-basketball-volleyball  , not being able to see the team i've been following since day 1.... Well it doesn't. I follow the scores on the cell but i am not looking for internet streams,i won't stay up all night unless it's an important C's playoff game. Every second week i'll watch champions league and maybe 3-4 times a year will go watch the local football team live.

I don't know if my life is better or not but i don't feel like there is something missing

Trump has done me the same way. I think I care more about our country now than the Celtics winning the Championship. I watch maybe one College game a week. One and done hurt my love for College Basketball. UP till last year I watched the NFL.  But the 49er's not enforcing the conduct rule on Full of Something COLIN. My money will go elsewhere. I am excited for tonight's game . I like the Spurs some too.

There are people who are doing a lot in that regard.  I went through some pretty heavy stuff and it made me realize certain things that weren't really necessary for me to realize.    I'm lucky in that regard where I've known some really good people in my life, but it makes you realize the cracks that much more. It's not as messed up as it seems but some things are in this country.  I could go into detail why I think what I do but not going to get that personal.\

Basketball should be enjoyed though imo.  I was still playing pretty regularly until not that long ago.

to me it's more like Kevin Durant signing with the 73 win Warriors killed my love of the game...just like when Alex Rodriguez signed that $25 Million a year deal--when the most other players were making was around $12-$15....Lost interest real fast after that.

Kevin Durant Killed the NBA for me.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

try to watch as many C's games as I can.  catch about half of them.  have to admit I don't like the current style of play of chucking 3's but that's what a lot of the league is doing now.  god i miss watching Mchale in the post.  never really cared about non-C's games -- still don't.  fan of the C's, not the NBA.

haven't been to a baseball game since 1994 when the players went on strike and caused the World Series to be cancelled.  haven't watched a game either which is saying a lot because at the time I was such a diehard fan I could have told you 23 of the 25 players on every team's roster on any given day including any transactions that occurred within 24 hours regarding players brought up from the minors
--> don't miss it at all

don't watch football except the Super Bowl.  never really a diehard fan and it's been a while since my Skins were relevant in the title chase.

Don't watch hockey except the outdoor winter classic and the Stanley Cup when my Kings were playing.

have found other things to occupy my time.
