Yeah,  I am in the 15-20 minutes camp. It is pretty rare that a good team gets to select #3 in the draft so there has to be an exception here. Jaylen getting 5 minutes while Young and GG don't play at all isn't really an exception; it is just appeasing Ainge.

Unless we bring in a superstar, We aren't going to be championship contenders; Jaylen needs to play more to learn the game. That's just how it works.

Based on the mpg he is playing, id like to see him play in maine more often (maybe on the off days). But him being a top 3 pick being assigned to dleague might rustle some jimmies.

I'd like to see Jaylen get 12-15 minutes.  He's not going to develop sitting on the bench or playing in Maine.  We should easily make the playoffs so even if it costs us a couple games it doesn't matter.

It actually does matter that we end up 2nd or 3rd seed so we can have a chance to make it to the ECF, but I agree, Jaylen needs to get more minutes. He's going to be the superstar, go to scorer we need in a couple years.

I love this post so much. I really don't see the difference between a fought first round exit and a 5 game finals exit.

Some people do, I'm sure players and free agents don't..

Brad is trying to win games.

I suspect Jaylen's minutes will fluctuate quite a bit depending on several factors:  strength of opponent, closeness of game, player match ups, how well Jaylen is playing, etc.

I am confident that his minutes will go up against softer opponents.  Remember we are less than 20 games in.

Jaylen plays when he is playing well, a lot of this is on him.  When he is aggressive early CBS tends to play him more.  When he is not, oh well.  I have seen some of his team mates pass throwing to him when he is open.

Ask any player that's only made the first round of the playoffs if there's a difference between losing in the first round and losing in the finals.  Then ask a free agent that signed with GSW or CLE for way less than they could have elsewhere if they would have done the same thing had the team they signed with (GSW or CLE) been bounced in the first round instead.  It might not make a difference to you, but it definitely makes a difference to free agents
I'm bitter.

I think most of his development this year will come in practice learning from Brad Stevens and going head-to-head with Jae Crowder.

I say they send him down to Maine to get some key practice time in to work on his 3 point shot, playing within the system, defensively, and on that mid-range jumper. I don't care what pick he is this is such a unique situation with us being a top playoff team and ending up with the 3rd overall pick that I don't see any problem with it.

You guys say that the D-League doesn't develop players, but Bradley and Rozier were routinely playing in the DL as a rookies and look how they've turned out? Even James Young looks better and more confident after spending 2 years in the DL. I think by sending Brown down to the DL it opens up minutes for young who is actually a more dangerous weapon from the 3-point line and can spread the floor for us off the bench.

why aren't GG and JY playing more? What is up with Brad's rotations.

Whose minutes would you like them to take?  Should we be playing a 13 man rotation? No.

I trust BS to give guys minutes they earn.  As someone said above, Brown is getting minutes when he plays well.  That's how it should be.

They don't get that much time to practice during the regular season due to the tight schedule.  Jaylen is a rookie but he isn't clueless like Young was (is?).  He'll get better quicker by playing some quality NBA minutes now.

I like to watch him play but I'll trust Brad on his minutes.  I'd rather have him do what he has to do in order to earn the minutes.  I don't think forcing anyone minutes makes them a better players.  Tons of rookies have been given big minutes with poor results (Michael Carter Williams) and just as many guys don't play much as rookies and become good players (Bradley).

He will get better by getting better. Force feeding Brown minutes doesn't necessarily equate to getting better. In fact a counter argument that giving players minutes when they aren't ready for them will overwhelm and frustrate a player and stunt their progress and development.

I think when Brown starts to get it and the game slows down for him he will get better and earn more minutes. That will have to take tons of hours in the weight room, in the gym shooting, on the computer watching game film, at practice, and in the games. The games. The one place he will be developing his skills the least just based on time.

Anyway I have said this enough over the years. Forcing players into minutes they haven't earned doesn't develop them. It just allows them to hang stats.

When he's ready to play more minutes, Brad will put him in. The Celtics are trying to win games, not develop players. Teams that aren't interested in winning will probably have a hard time retaining their players once they develop.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
