Joe Dumars without the offensive game, yet.

Maybe... But smart is bigger than Dumars.  I guess similar level athlete (not too quick nor explosive)

But offensively no comparison

Im slowly giving up on Smart ever becoming a consistent/effective offensive player.... But will do alot of other things to make up for it

Yeah Dumars is a stretch. Prob Tony Allen or Bruce Bowen. Good thing is that Smart is still years away from his prime.

Sort of a poor man's DJ (Celtics days not earlier years).  Makes big plays, tough defensively, impact on the game doesn't always show up in the box score. Shoots way more 3's than DJ ever did lol but different era.

The problem is that we want Marcus to be able to hit the 3. In these years that we aren't going to win the championship, it is probably best to get the young guys ready to play championship ball in the future. Thus, we should encourage Marcus to shoot AND hit. We invested a high pick in him, and want to see the returns.

That, or we could trade him. Not sure how much return we get on a guard who can't shoot, yet.

Somewhere between Kirk Hinrich and Tony Allen.

What about an early Jason Kidd (who sucked at shooting).

I'd say a Marcus Banks that wants to win as bad a KG.

Hahahahaha!  They are virtually polar opposites, except for the part where I guess you're trying to infer that smart will improve his shooting.

He's back to shooting bad. He's shooting 38% from the field alone this year. I think Allen was better at scoring, smart is better at handling. If he doesn't improve, he will be a disappointment as a player considering where he was picked. It's depressing because the Celtics clearly need all stars.

At this point, Smart's ceiling appears to be of a role player. I like the Tony Allen comp.

I mean, that is a career high for him, lol
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I mean, you can already start to put that in ink.  Because want to lean on his draft number as evidence that he will be anything more than a role player but none of the actually things you see with his skill set provide any support for him being even an average offensive player.

This is depressing.  I don't want to believe his ceiling is a role player, but it seems to be heading that way.

I'm still holding out hope he finds his stride this year.   There's 13 players drafted in 2014 that are outperforming him right now.  A lot of that class is making leaps.  Maybe Smart's is just delayed.  Hopefully.

Tony Allen was a 5x All-Defense player.  That seems to be Smart's ceiling right now.  Allen with weaker defense, less offense, more intangibles and maybe slightly better distribution skills.  Allen didn't reach his ceiling until after leaving Boston, though.  Maybe that'll happen with Smart as well.
