I'm ready for those that disagree with the subject.

the reason why I'm saying this is,  look at the roster (Danny) and how it is utilized (CBS).

The Roster

We don't have one bonafide frontcourt player with above average length, reach or explosiveness to:  Secure most of the defensive rebounds (you would think a basic thing like this is take care of), block/alter shots,  grab some offensive rebounds/tip ins (celtics must be last in this category)

I still don't really understand the signing of Zeller and picking up the option for Amir (two off the bench mediocre pf/c).  The only reason i can see , is to prepare to make a potential deal at the trade deadline.  This type of "fishing" strategy only works 50 percent of the time.  And Danny having the rep that he does around the league , i don't know if any GM will bite.   I hope he gets lucky and proves me wrong

Solution:  Plenty of other FAs he could have signed or could have drafted Brice Johnson and brought in Zizic who would instantaneously be the best rebounder on the team.

The lineup

CBS is a good coach but uptight and nervous one.  His "system" has to be perfect which also may mean players are unable to play their games comfortably.   I thought he was good at "raising" young players but the opposite has been true.     One or two mistakes will send you to the bench.  There just seems like a lack of encouragement/playing on the players strength.

The small ball movement has been puzzling to see at best.  It may work at spurts or "blitz" type situations but to use it game in and game out, eventually it is bound to fail.   It's like a baseball team, bunting at bat regularly in hopes to get on base. Eventually it will fail.   For example playing Marcus Smart at the SF spot is nonsense.    Durant yesterday could shoot over Marcus with his eyes closed.  I mean how many inches are you giving up there???     In addition AB and IT is the smallest backcourt in the league .  Talented players but too small to matchup against duos like Thompson/Curry,  Smith/Irving etc.

CBS wants to reinvent the wheel or something and wants his tall players to be more like PGs/facilitators/shooters and  small players to do most of the scoring/drive to the paint.    Again, against certain lineups this will work. But against above average teams with a balanced roster It will likely backfire

Solution:  Bring IT off the bench.  Start Smart and AB,  encourage team passing, share responsibility to score,  prevent defensive matchup issues from the start of the game (at the pg spot)...  Have Marcus and AB pressure the guards to prevent them to getting settled in the halfcourt.    Stop with the half court "set plays" and run more.  Make more half court/full court passes

It's really strange because these things were done alot more after Rondo was traded and prior to IT brought in/IT off the bench.

I know some will say wait until Horford is back and things will get resolved.  Maybe and I hope so. I just wish the lineup had a few guys that could secure defensive rebounds (vs placing importance to stretch the floor at the offensive end) and in addition CBS would stop with these bizarre lineups on the floor.   I'm not saying structure is not important but also encourage playing a little more "free".  Pass the ball around more,  pass it up court to a running big man like KO, Zeller etc. , gas the opponent big players

I just think everything will start clicking once we get everyone back.

Until then, I expect us to hover right around 500, and that's ok for me.

This is still a very young team so these injuries are just an aberration.

TBH I'd rather CBS pull IT and other players last night like he did rather than risk them trying to go all out and getting hurt.

Championships are won in June - not November.

Dont agree with either assertion. First, with Ainge. Ainfe wants to keep financial flexibility. That's why he stashed Yab and Zizac, to try to sign two top line free agents. He pushed back JJ's and Amir's option pickup for the same reason. Bringing them back allows for the signing of another top FA this offseason. Also, I think you would have learned your lesson by now regarding young players who aren't drafted highly producing in their rookie year. Brice Johnson and Zizac probably would have produced as much as Mickey has....very little to none.

As for your comments on Stevens, let's just say you are wrong. He has great insight on how to win in today's NBA. Give him a healthy group and he will go on to be the great young oach he has been for two years.

*sigh  ::)

So much to disagree with ...

While I agree that CBS and Ainge promote hard work and toughness with their roster decisions and culture, most NBA minds would disagree that CBS does not have a gameplan.

We have been playing without two of our best players in Horford and Crowder, and have had to rely too much on young guys like Brown and Rozier in their absence. I'm not sure what people expected. Also, Olynyk was absent for a while too and is just getting back up to speed. This team will look great once everyone is healthy and in synch.

On top of that, we have two promising prospects stashed overseas and lots of cap flexibility, and more draft picks in the cupboard for a big trade. It's all good.

I agree. This is still a team in progress.

I'm not sure if we lack a gameplan, per se. But I agree with your idea that they prefer hard work/toughness over talent. But then again, this team has its greatest amount of success when it plays with that toughness and grit, not when it depends on talent.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Bingo.  The problem may be the coach, who has a hand in personnel decisions. Probably why Zeller is still there. The Celtics will never win anything without another major frontcourt player who can jump.
