  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I don't know about Bogut.  He is putting up 3.7 pts and 10.8 rebs in 25.8 min/gm for $11M.  i don't see the needle moving enough to warrant bringing him in unless it really was something low value like Zeller, Jackson and a second round pick.

Remember, we're not just paying for his productivity, but the legend as well...

Bogut does more than numbers he is good passer. On a play at the end of the game aka what Holford did against Detriot. Bogut seems to rise to the occasion. If we could get him for some of our second round picks go for it if we truly want to compete this year. He may get bought out in Feburary anyway. If Washington keeps fading we may could get Gortat at a good price too. But he would hurt our abilty this summer. Bogut may take less to play for a winner next year if he loves our organization.
"People look at players, watch them dribble between their legs and they say, 'There's a superstar.'  Well John Havlicek is a superstar, and most of the others are figments of writers' imagination."

So Zeller can be traded on Jan 15th, the Mavs are 2-6 and looking like they are gonna suck this year. Zeller gives them a non-guaranteed contract to trade on draft night or in the summer. What extra would we need to give to get the Mavs to trade us Bogut?

Would Demetrius Jackson do it? Or the rights to Thornton or Nader? Or a few of our plethora of picks; we have 2017 2nds form Minny, Cleveland and LAC, a 2019 2nd from Detroit and a 2020 2nd from Miami, plus our own 2nds from 2018.

Personally I'd like to throw in the rights to Thornton and one or both of the Cleveland and LAC picks. They are all very minor throwaway assets that we don't need and to Dallas they help in some small way build their base of youth. Plus the Zeller contract might come in handy for them.

The only thing that might stop me from doing this would be saving the Zeller contract for chasing Cousins but as much as I'd love that I think it unlikely during the season, we may have to wait until the off season for that to happen

Not sure we would need to save Zeller for the Cousins trade because Amir is a better salary match.

Bogut would be a great fit for us at the 5.  He is on an expiring contract which has benefits like if it doesn't work out then we don't need to re-sign.  Negative is that it cuts into our salary room for this upcoming offseason.  Also not really interested in giving up Jackson or Young for a contract swap that saves the Mavs money over 5M.  If we gave up rights to Thornton, sure but not abder

I guarantee you that Nader won't be anything more than a bench player. Don't let those D-League stats fool you. All those scoring will be meaningless if he can't even learn how to rotate properly under Stevens' defensive schemes.

Most important thing for wings to crack the rotation.

- Play within the offense
- can switch on defense
- can guard pick-n-rolls
- can play multiple positions
- consistent shooting

Smart gets a pass on shooting since he provide many aspects in the game. Not even Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier can get consistent minutes because they haven't completely grasp the defensive rotations and they are our best bench core next to Smart and Olynyk.

The only reason we would need them both for a Cousins trade is if we had to take a bad contract back in the trade e.g. Rudy Gay. Unlikely but thought I'd mention it.

It shouldn't cut into our cap this offseason. Bogut would have a cap hold but that is easily waived if someone like Griffin comes along

Bogut for Zeller. Simple trade that makes quite a bit of sense for both teams. Too bad it can't be completed for more than a month and a half...
