  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Ok so it's only been a few games, but it's a promising start in the right direction.
His pure FG% is still needs improvement at 41.7% but his 2pfg% is 47%.
His free throw shooting has been horrendous at 45% which should get up to about 75% like last year. He's taking 4 more shots per game and playing All NBA caliber defense as usual.
He is starting to penetrate off the dribble more and this should see his free throw attempts increase and thus=more points and better efficiency.

Here's to crossing our fingers that the numbers get even better.
Would be amazing to have a 15 ppg, 5 assist, 5 rebound season from him with All NBA defense in his 3rd year.

Good stuff. TP. I hope that he can really have a breakout season this year.

This post had better not jinx him now.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Smart is a player made for playoff basketball, which is much more physical than the regular season. I prefer him at the two, rather than the one or the three. But I could be wrong.

He threw some pretty nifty passes last night, better than Rozier I would say.  That said, yes he is a great player for the playoffs.

I think he's better with the ball in his hands than not, which is why I like him as the back-up point guard and leader of the second unit. He certainly shouldn't be playing the 3 nearly as much as he is, but that's mainly due to injuries.

But I said this summer that I thought he could put up 14.5 pts, 5 rebs, 4.5 asts, 1.5 stls, 43% and 33%. Pretty close to those numbers so far.

Smart also seems to be a guy who brings it all night, every night in a way that even few professionals do.

I don't think stats will ever tell his whole story.

His last 3 games are encouraging but he's also still wildly inconsistent.  Last game he started like 1-8 and caught fire late.  He's done that in other games.  Hopefully the efficiency continues though.

He is more efficient than IT in the last few games. The only thing IT brings more is the ability to draw fouls. Smart is starting to get more comfortable on attacking the basket and draw fouls now.

To be fair, I think he had misses at the end of the first quarter and half time as well as an off-balance last second missed three at the end of the shot clock on another possession. 1-5 is still awful, but I was very glad to see him go off in the 3rd. There weren't a lot of silver linings last night, but Smart was certainly one of them.

I remain skeptical that Marcus will ever be a player who can create his own shot at any time, but being able to knock down and open three, creating in the lane, and slamming home an offensive rebound every now and then should allow him to be considerably better than the 'worst offensive player in the NBA.'

This is all with not regularly getting the ball and not getting the chance to play PG really out there.  Also having to go against SFs many times.  He should be getting the ball more often.  AB and IT can play off ball more than he can and he has shown some really good things when they rarely have given him the chance this year.

Most of those started their career in the low pace era. Smart would average like 10 with that pace.

Smart has shown glimpses of his excellent court vision throughout his first two years despite having minimal opportunities to handle the ball. In the first 2 years, he looked like a player comfortable taking open shots regardless of accuracy; whether it was coach suggested and/or lack of confidence in his handle he wasn't making the plays he's capable of.

There are CB posters that seem to believe that only players on other teams can improve and if it sere up to them, he would've been packaged in a trade already. But with Marcus' work ethic it's only a matter of time until he figures it out and becomes an AS caliber player. When he lears how to use his strength to maneuver past defenders, 15-5-5 with decent accuracy and starting on a contender is going to be his expected.

To me smarts defense is not as good as it has been.  And his girth makes me wonder about his commitment.  Perhaps that's his body type now but dude is straight up fat, slow and unexplosive.

There is a huge difference in talent between him and some of the comps listed earlier (e.g, harden, wade).

It's hard to convince me that anyone on the Celtics is playing all-NBA defense right now.
