questions to ponder at this point:
- did we overachieve last year leading to overestimating what the team could achieve this year?
I still don't think so. people have said for the past 2 years now that we "overachieved". I think this team just played hard and had a good gameplan every night last year.
- Were Sully and Turner bigger pieces of this team's ability to win than many people gave them credit for?
yes. I thought Turner was the bigger piece, but if the rebounding continues, maybe Sully was the bigger piece? (hah)
- are we just plain mediocre?
i hope not.
Yeah, the overachieving narrative doesn't make any sense to me.
Rebounding is definitely more of an issue than I thought it was, but our bigs being out and Amir rapidly regressing has really hurt us, along with losing Turner and Sully in that regard. I think rebounding is really the main area where losing those two hurts us, because they were both good rebounders.
And I don't think it's us not being as good as we thought either. We're clearly playing terrible ball and losing to really bad teams. It's a combination of things, but I think we've lost that defensive intensity a bit combined with missing guys and it being early in the season.
We definitely need an upgrade at the big position, though, and it needs to happen relatively soon. We're going to continue to lose games playing end of the bench bigs as starters who can't get a rebound to save their life.
