I can't believe they have Randle 30 spots ahead

I can.  This confirms what I was getting ridiculed about in the "Revisit Randle vs Smart" thread.  While I still have Smart a hair above Randle due to my homerism, I feel like most people outside Laker/Celtic fandom would already say Randle has leapfrogged Smart.

doesn't confirm a thing. arbitrary ESPN rankings (that we still don't have a link for, btw lol) dont confirm anything. what is the basis of the ranking? what are they using to justify the ranking? until we get the actual link, there's nothing to even look into to confirm.
ESPN ranks players every year.  http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/page/nbarank51100/nbarank-players-51-100

Embiid at #58 already.

thanks for the link (and the shameless Embiid plug lol), still doesnt "confirm" anything. ESPN might be touted as the "experts" or whatever, but their rankings don't "confirm" anything at all.
The rankings don't mean anything.  They have Smart ahead of Okafor, Noel AND Simmons which is obviously nonsense.

Wasn't sure if you were overrating Randle or underrating Smart (probably both) but this makes it pretty clear you're underrating Smart.

Smart is a guaranteed starter on every team except for 3 that I can count with already stacked perimeters (Celtics, Warriors, Bulls).  Top 100 sounds about right for him at the moment, especially considering he's in the discussion with Leonard for best defender.
Randle is having a great season so far but so is Smart.

I would give the nod to Smart because of what he brings on the defensive end.

Anyone picking Randle over Smart?
Most non Celtic fans.

Most non Celtics fans are only looking at the box score. Smart is a fighter who wants to win, he is fearless out there.

TP
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

then why is he taking nearly 5 three pointers a game when he can't even hit them at 30% or 5.5 two point attempts when he is under 42% on them?  Smart is a fighter and a very good defensive player, but he is one of the worst offensive players in basketball, yet keeps shooting the [dang] ball.  That doesn't strike me as a guy that wants to win, more like a selfish me-first type offensive player who unlike many others of those has never shown the ability to take over a game offensively.  I mean we aren't talking about a guy that is in a slump because those are around his career averages.  He is just awful and needs to stop shooting.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

Agree he shoots too much, nut maybe that's what his coach his asking?
He is far from 'selfish me-first' type. selfish guys care for stats not playing D and sacrificing their bodies.
One example is Smart will take a last second shot from full court because he doesn't care about his stats(he had two of those the other night). IT last night had the ball at mid-court last second and didn't take the shot- i am guessing he didn't want to hurt his %.

I'm on the Smart bandwagon, but I'll admit I had a moment of doubt the other day.

I was thinking to myself, "All he does is make winning plays. all he does is win."

Then I remembered a clip of Skip Bayless saying those same things about Tebow during his craziness a few years ago.

Randle, a big man who cannot stretch the floor or protect the rim, is not as valuable as a fearless elite permiter defender in today's NBA.

Smart will develop his jump shot, just look how far he has come ball handling and passing from the pick and roll. Ainge made the right choice.

First all I hear is he will. He hasn't. Time to hold him accountable instead of saying he's a winner. This team would win him, or without him. People need to stop acting as though he is a top player on this team. The guy comes off the bench and is competing with Brown and Rozier for minutes. There is also a scrub like Jerebko on this team. Even Tyler Zeller gets minutes on this scrub team. So to say Smart makes an impact on winning is very dumb, since the only evidence Smart fanatics can present is the eye test. Okay, let me put my green bias goggles on to see what you're seeing.

The starters are good. Thank god for them.

I hope Smart improves, but he hasn't. Never seen a more overrated Celtics player in my life. Love the Tebow analogy. I'd honestly rather have Tony Allen because I personally found him to be a better 1 on 1 defender. In his prime, he did a pretty good job on Durant, something Smart can't even sniff.

Call me when he makes an all defensive team.

He can't shoot, he can't finish, he's overweight, he has an average at best first step, has no spin move, has no left hand. He has improved his handling which is awesome, but that's about it. It's not like his defense has gotten any better either. He plays a bunch of minutes yet doesn't even get that many steals compared to the elite stealers.

Dropping microphone, and bowing out.

114th best player is still pretty good.  There are 150 starters in the NBA.

As for Randle, he seems to have come on after a slow start to his career.  You could debate it either way.  Big men tend to be more valuable, harder to find.  I wouldn't trade Smart for Randle right now and I doubt the Lakers would either.  I wonder if the Sixers could take either for Noel or Okafor who they would want.  They might just take Smart.  Other teams might like Randle better.

Point is that it is close between the two.  i suspect both will be around for a while and continue to improve.  No regrets here on taking Smart.

what does that have to do with my post?

And what evidence do you have that Smart will develop a jump shot?  He was a poor outside shooter in college and had the worst 2 year start shooting of anyone in NBA history.  Smart is not going to develop a jump shot.  He is hurting the team with his shooting.  When will people stop giving him a pass.  Smart is so bad he makes Sullinger look like Ray Allen from beyond the arc.

Facts don't apply to Smart fanatics. They're living in fairy world where Marcus Smart is the next Ron Artest even though Artest freaking scored 20 points a game is a taller player.

At this point, it's fair to say Tony Allen in his prime is better.
