However, If Young does develop into a Legit rotation player, it still could go down as the greatest GM move of all time. It might anyway but Young could be the Icing on the Taco.
Nothing we have seen thus far, indicates this happening. It is a reach at best, and delusional at the worst.
I think it became a coin flip who to keep, although I think RJ would have been the better choice. James Young looks incompetent on defense. He also parks himself in corners. Someone said that's Brad's call, but I don't think so. I didn't see anyone else parking in corners as much as James. Maybe I'm wrong.
They kept Young because he has seniority with the team and is still basically a kid. It was charity. Maybe keeping Pressey at some point was the same thing, but I remember Phil winning us games and helping Olynyk's confidence. RJ is 23 and he simply didn't show enough other than one great preseason game against the Knicks. I thought he won it with that performance, but now I know it's true Danny and Brad do not make decisions on one game. I heard one of them say that once.
RJ is a chucker. We've know this since last year. I found it surprising. If he sucks at shooting, what is he good for unless he tones his body and becomes a defensive menace? RJ is smooth and I think he might become a real NBA rotation guy, a Bayless maybe even a Delonte who worked his way into big moments.
I think James Young is out of the NBA when his contract runs out. Maybe he can pull off a Gerald Green story, but that might be in ten years. I don't know. It's said piano players need to start as young as possible. James Young might be a Fab Melo and incapable of competing in the NBA to justify a 15th roster spot.
Jaylen Brown is a natural. He could be a cross between LeBron, Michael Jordan and M.L. Carr. I just pulled that out of my hat. I don't know. He seems to have the "it" factor as does Marcus Smart. And we are still discussing James Young. My excuse is it's halftime.
