Okafor would cost a hell of a lot less than Cousins and IMO acquiring Okafor would create more value than acquiring Cousins.

With Embiid doing so well and the eventual return of Simmons. I could see a simple trade based around:

Smart
4
Okafor

We could throw in RJ too(instead of cutting him)

This way we get to keep all those assets and we get a player that IMO is extremely undervalued both offensively and defensively.

It's possible they acquire Okafor with his rookie contract to use in an even bigger trade

He would be another huge trade asset down the road. Especially on a rookie contract.

That being said I wouldn't do the deal, Smart for Okafor straight up.

Wasn't their noise that Boogies helped usher Thomas out of Sacramento in FA?

Or am I recalling that incorrectly.

My recollection is that reports surfaced after the IT S&T that he and Cousins did not get along, but it was largely dismissed as the Kings smearing IT. I could be wrong, though.

IT really breaking crazy news here. Just earth shattering.

I believe you are right, but quickly after everything seemed to show that was really wrong.  From everything I have seen Cousins really likes IT and was mad they let him go.   I had heard he brought that up to the front office as a big objection he had with them. They always seem to have been friends.

Unfortunately, I think the Kings are still under the illusion that they're legit playoff contenders. There's reports that they're talking with Miami about a Dragic for Gay and Collison swap. That might make them a bit better, but I still don't think that team is anywhere near a playoff contender, especially when that move would make them even worse defensively.

Definitely better - GS, SAS, Portland, LAC

Probably better - OKC, Dallas, Memphis, Utah, Houston, Minnesota

About on par with Sacramento - New Orleans, Denver, Lakers, Phoenix

That organization is just an absolute mess. Outside of injuries, I don't see any possible way that they really have a shot at the playoffs.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Bring Boogie to the Celtics, and we're the only team that are consistently built to beat the GSW or the Cavs.

No one is going to be able to double team or guard DMC, especially when you got to worry about the mid range spacing or 3 point shooting that Horford can make; plus the easy fast break/cuts from IT taking up plenty of breathing room for defenders.

Boogie or a dominant center that is the closest thing we have to Shaq, besides KAT, who I firmly believe will carve out a different role.

Yeah, it would of course depend on what had to be sent away in order to acquire Boogie.  But if it were Amir and a bunch of draft picks, the bigs would totally neutralize the Cavs Love-Thompson combo, and obviously we have tons of depth on the perimeter.  And vs. Golden State, they'd probably have to stay away from their lineup of death to close out games.  (Probably -- a KD vs. Horford matchup at the 4 would be very interesting.)

But Boogie would take the team into the discussion of being a legitimate contender.

Haha no kidding. Cousins is the best player that Thomas has ever played an actual NBA game with, and it's not really close. The fact that he would want to once again play with a top talent is not surprising, regardless of how much of a tool Cousins is purported to be.

IT
Bradley
Crowder
Horford
Demarcus

This team is an interesting match against the Cavs, and could potentially steal a playoff series. I'm in.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I really can't believe people are choosing to part with Smart before Crowder.

Hey I don't agree with them.  Smart is really pretty off limits for me.

Tough for me to part with either.  ESPN has Crowder with the 18th-best projected BPM for the upcoming season.  If he lives up to that, he's in All-NBA territory.

Crowder's contract is pretty incredible and continues two years past Smart's expiration. Combine that with the fact that Crowder was arguably our overall MVP last year (offense and defense) and our entire attitude as a team changed when came to town and it is pretty easy to see why. I really like Smart and he fits right in to the Crowder mold, but Smart just isn't at Crowder's level yet (although he definitely should be able to reach the same level with continued persistence).

That's why it's tough for me to part with either.  Crowder is a terrific player, sets the tone of this team as much as anyone.  And Smart is near breaking through to that level himself.  I want Boogie, and I'd trade several picks for him.  But I want to add him to this roster as the final piece, and not having to replace an important player at another position.

Also, I'm very excited that Jaylen Brown has to go against Crowder every day they practice.  That's going to help his development so much.

eh. we still have rozier, who is nowhere near the defender that marcus is, but can probably become a better scorer. then again, does that impact winning as much as marcus does? and, can terry run an offense better than marcus?
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.
