4th year is only partially guaranteed so good chance it is only a 3 year deal, which happens to coincide with James' new extension.  Contract isn't bad for a starter on the defending NBA champions in a vacuum, but that contract pushes Cleveland well into the luxury tax, though not as much as last year, so it will cost the Cavs even more money than the contract itself.

Last night, Abby Chin said they are $30M over the luxury tax limit.

It isn't that high.  They are at like 133 million, tax line is 113 million. I believe that 133 million includes some guys that have partially guaranteed contracts.  Smith is 15.7 million this year so it is all tax.  Without him they were barely over the tax line and probably could have made a move or two to get under it.
