It's an interesting topic. Even Scal is keeping a close eye on it.

I agree with Shak that perhaps resigning Zeller was a mistake. Maybe Danny got greedy. Maybe Zeller is insurance for Olynyk's injury. Mickey is improving, but he doesn't look rotation ready. I bet next year Jordan Mickey will look a lot better, same with RJ.

This poll doesn't actually add up.

Al Horford
Amir Johnson
Avery Bradley
Tyler Zeller
Isaiah Thomas
Jae Crowder
Jonas Jerebko
Jaylen Brown
Marcus Smart
Kelly Olynyk
Terry Rozier
Gerald Green

I think we're supposed to pick three from your list:

 Young
 Jackson
 Mickey
 RJ
 Bentil

Bentil seems gone. Mickey and Jackson seem safe. It's RJ or Young and James Young has shown us nothing. I did see Hunter throw up a very ugly three pointer. His shooting is awful.

But if Smart could improve his jumper, maybe so can RJ.

Maybe Danny will be able to make a trade. The 15th slot may seem irrelevant, but there are only three preseason games left and you never know how guys on the bubble might develop.

I think James Young is gone. I forget who said it, but it makes sense to send a message to the younger players that they are not getting a free ride if they want to stay on the team long-term.

It's confusing!! But you are supposed to pick two to be cut. There are 3 spots left, 5 cut candidates, so you pick two to be cut.

Day 9: Young and Bentil lead the poll!

My bad! Sorry. I pick Bentil and Young. I think that's the clear decision.

If I was the coach, I would have played Hunter and Young two games each as the starting shooting guard. The way it's going on right now seems extremely unfair.

I saw tremendous leadership skills from Zeller, Rozier, and Smart. We could have easily lost that game.

RJ was getting rookie foul calls. He picked up four fouls in a few minutes. He made a nice block. He seems to be in the right spots and active. Maybe  my tagline sticking a fork into Young makes me biased. I sincerely see next to nothing in value with James Young's game. He needs to play in China a couple years and mature personally. He's obviously a nice guy and this is sort of painful, yet only in the way one watches a drama.

James Young will survive. I'm sure he has a nice little egg nest built or should have. I'm not sure he will be picked up by another team if he is cut. I think the team is just being nice to him.

I think he's been a goner the whole time.

Unless James Young starts exploding in real games, he might not even get a spot on some mediocre European team.

I hope James gets a good 20-25 minute look in one of the next three games, just to spice up this debate, but yeah as of now, he's a sixth man in Kyrgystan.

Bentil's gone.  Why not cut Mickey?  He's super athletic and talented in his own right, but maybe not a good fit for the NBA --  he'll be really good in the right environment. I say let him go collect at the end of another bench / overseas while Hunter and Young battle it out.  Young has made it interesting.

Big Z, man, if he didn't make 8m I wouldn't bat an eye if he was released. He isn't a bad player (offensively) or anything but he seems to have dropped off a cliff with his game except for when he plays other team's 3rd string. What happened to him? He was always a bad defender but he has irked my nerves since last season any time he is on the court. Maybe CBS broke his heart? From starter to every other big is injured I have no choice on sending him out there or DNP.

I think what's happened to him is he isn't needed anymore. The Celtics didn't exactly have a ton of options when he first arrived here but since then, the Celtics have added bigs that do more for the team than he does. First Jerebko, then Johnson, and now especially Horford. Add Olynyk's improved play and Zeller has essentially been phased out by the team because the 4 of them play better defense than Zeller and, with the exception of Johnson, all of them are better long range than Zeller.

I honestly like Zeller but he's not really worth much besides being a trade asset at this point.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I don't dislike Z, I want the best for/from all Cs but man, he hasn't been good for a while. Gotta be confidence too. I feel bad for him but also for us b/c we are thin at C/PF and if a big goes down for a spell, I have to hope it's not when teams are really trying because I don't think we could make it with Z for long. Too many stretch bigs and SFs that would play 4/5 and eat us alive and I'm not even accounting for help D.

I wanna know why Z hasn't worked on a 3 ball yet? CBS lets EVERY PLAYER take them, if Zeller has worked on it I haven't heard about it or seen him on the perimeter at all. You'd have to think they asked him to work on it at some point because they get everyone else to do it.

good looking out! they get/let them all to do it, should have figured they would have him test it. looks bad at it but practice makes... hopefully a threat.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

It will probs be Bentil and Young or Hunter.  I think that whoever survives will simply be cut next Oct.  That is why I say keep Bentil (in D league) this year and cut both Young and Hunter now.  This will free up more cap space next summer (for Gordon?).  Cutting Hunter & Young now and not exercising their options for next year saves 4.0 million next summer.  Then you probably end up cutting Bentil next summer anyway but his money doesn't guarantee until 8/1/17. If you wait to cut JY and RJ next summer you have to eat the 4 mil assuming you renewed their options this Oct 31.

I would consider cutting Young, Hunter and Bentil. That is a roster of 14 that gives us a slot to use if a nice player is cut from another team or comes available in a trade. I think Jackson  is a more tradeable asset than Mickey and will be in the D league. Neither should be on the roster next year anyway if we sign a FA and get another top of the draft player.

Demetrious looks so comfortable out there.. it's definitely between RJ and Young now, I think.

I honestly am starting to think the odd man out is Zeller. He's the only one who has looked pretty bad over the course of this pre-season.

You may be right, but it won't happen. He is signed and we need him for front court depth.
