If it was a suicide, where's the gun?
Nadine Hernandez, 44, was found around 2:45 p.m., after police responded to reports of a shooting. Paramedics transported Hernandez to a hospital where she later died. A firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.
Also, it's nearly impossible to stage a suicide via gun. Gunshot residue is tested for and would be found on the deceased's dominant hand.
Why? The murderer could physically force her by pulling the trigger while she's holding the gun.
Then there would likely be signs of a struggle, which again wouldn't be indicative of it being self inflicted. Also, the entry/exit wound wouldn't be consistent with it being self inflicted. The pattern would be "off" and would show the trajectory pattern not indicative of it being from her. What you suggested might be pulled off in the movies, but not in the real world. Try playing around in a mock scenario against your gf/wife and you'll see that despite the smaller size it's impossible to pull of what you suggested against an unwilling individual and have it not look like a homicide.
Oh, and it's not as though this case won't be reassigned to a new detective.
