I feel terrible for the philly fans
Yup, sucks for them to lose yet another prospect to a potentially serious injury.

Hopefully he can just get back at basketball asap.

It's an outstanding idea.

- Let's them feed developmental minutes into Saric
- Let's them focus on figuring out their center log jam.  Put the focus on the bigs this season so they can make a decision on which one they want to keep.
- Let's them tank again this year for potentially two Top 5 picks in a draft toploaded with PG's and SF's.
- Delays the need to field a competitive team this year.  They can push back the start of Phase 2 until next season.
- Takes pressure off Simmons to immediately be a savior.  They can bring him back slowly with low expectations.

A win all around.

A win all around?

You really can't be serious. This is a huge setback for them.

This isn't 2k17...chemistry is important, keeping fans in the seats is important.

Winning games is important.

I frankly find this opinion quite assinine.

haha, i'm actually serious!

I don't feel bad for the sixers management.

But the fans are getting jobbed and robbed by injuries and management.

The philly fans are dedicated (they'd have to be to watch this sixers team)

So i feel bad for the fans. I mean, it's not like it's the lakers

If the Sixers end up with a 10 year run of multiple deep playoff runs and at least one championship, then a few years of absolute pain is absolutely worth it.  I mean this is a team that for basically 30 years has been the definition of mediocrity.  I mean not Hawks level mediocrity as they did have the Finals appearance with AI, but generally a very mediocre team for a very long time.

Simmons has already had his surgery.  No timetable for his return yet.

Simmons doesn't have a position, and the sooner he plays the sooner Philly will learn what his position might be.

Also, even good rookies need a period of adjustment to the speed, athleticism, defense and overall talent level in the NBA.

Let him play when he's back, even for 20 games at the end of the year, and you address both of those issues so you can let him hit the ground running next season, in the right role and having played some NBA ball. Otherwise you might waste another half a year figuring all that stuff out.

I'm having a hard time imagining Bill Russell, Larry Bird, KG, LeBron James, Michael Jordan etc lobbying to miss an entire season when there's a good chance they could play.

I don't see how it is good for Simmons to sit out if he is cleared to play.  If he wants to hold out for a trade, fine, make your stand but I don't think pretending to be injured makes Philly more likely to trade him.  Forcing a trade is completely separate from his foot.  I don't buy any of this.  If the agent is saying we want to be absolutely sure the foot is healed, fine, that is fair, but that doesn't mean he sits out unnecessarily.  Get a second opinion if you want but when the doctors say you are OK to play, you get out there and try to play.  It would not be in Simmon's best interest to do anything else.

takes the pressure off them this season.  They can start phase 2 next year.   This year they can focus on figuring out what they want to do with their bigs.  Takes the urgency out of making a trade.

I agree. They have no pressure now. This is the best thing that has happened to their franchise in a long time after I have thought about it more.

I fail to see how pressure is relived for the team.

How are they supposed to figure out who meshes with Simmons?

How are the fans supposed to suffer through another year of winning potentially less than 20 games?

It is like you view the NBA as 2k17, like chemistry, fan support, and actually winning games is irrelevant.

You were the one argueing there was no urgency for them to make a trade, and now that this happens, they did have urgency to make a trade?

Seems like you are talking out of both sides of your mouth.

In no way is the loss of your number one overall pick, potentially for the season, a good thing.

Should the sixes keep sucking for 5 years, while building their  pile of "assets", you phase two just keep getting pushed further back?

They are creating a strong culture of losing and of sucking...that doesn't just change overnight.

I am certainly glad Danny doesn't share your mindset.

Sounds like the Sixers would have to become the best team ever for you to consider "the process" a success.  A 10yr run with a championship is better than most teams get.  I'd jump at it for our Celtics.
