at the end of games if we have players that can hit a 3 if someone is going to be left open it makes sense to do that at times.  It was preseason though and good to give them the opportunity.

An open shooter is better than a covered one sometimes though.  Unfortunately mickey wasn't that open and neither was marcus and they missed.  Good experience.

Takeaways from the game:

- Starters looked magnificent.  Specifically Horford, Bradley and Crowder. High hopes for them.
- Bench was concerning
- Saw some good signs from the young Celtics (Smart, Brown, Rozier) against very questionable competition (bad in the first half - good against the d-leaguers).
- Very impressed by Embiid's debut considering he was going up against the starting lineup of what projects as the best defensive team in the league.  Looked good considering he hasn't played competitive ball in 3 years.  Needs to work on handling double-teams.
- Likewise, pretty impressed with Dario Saric who also got a lot of burn against our starters.  Looked better than I expected early.
- Boston shouldn't lose that game.  They are one of the deepest teams in the league.  I know it's pre-season, but it's a very bad sign to lose against the worst team in the league that's missing 3 of their best players (Bayless, Okafor, Simmons) and has another on a 12 minute restriction (Embiid).   Not good.  We should have won this game by 30.

Looking forward to seeing some progress as the preseason continues.

I'm so pumped right now, Brown is way ahead of where I thought he would be at this point!
he looks good, but keep in mind he's going up against undrafted players with no NBA experience.  That Philly lineup is essentially D-league level.

Still, you expect a #3 pick to outplay undrafted players.  So it's good to see that happening a bit.

For me I'm looking more at his passing and play making, and how comfortable he looks out there.
Yeah, my point is he SHOULD look comfortable out there in comparison to the guys he's going against

Brandon Paul - 23 years old, undrafted, 0 NBA experience
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot - 21 years old, 24th pick, 0 NBA experience
Rodriguez - 30 years old, hasn't played in the NBA since 2010
James Webb - 23 years old, undrafted, 0 NBA experience
Richaun Homes, 22 years old, #37 pick last year, played 51 games last year.

Only Homes played in the NBA last season - for a 10 win team that was historically bad.  Those players averaged a combined 5.6 points last season.

You'd expect a #3 pick to tear up that group.

Point taken. Nice to let him build confidence against scrubs hehe. I agree with the "#3 pick" stuff but many people thought he wasn't a #3 pick and he's also a very young kid. Lets see what he does against real bench players.  ;)
He looked good - which is all that matters.  He needs to keep his confidence up.  I'm just saying that it would have been more concerning if he had struggled against those scrubs.   Those are all bums that were worse than him on the College level.  If they had leapfrogged him in a single summer, we'd have a problem.

The reverse is true.  An undrafted scrub like Brandon Paul has no business dropping 15 points on what projects as the best defensive team in the league.   Boston needs to tighten it up next game.

LB stop lying, Embiid didn't look good until Zeller was out there.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

This is a perfect tune-up game for the Celtics.  Most of the guys on the court for Philly are borderline NBA players.  I hope the young guys look this good against some real players.
Huh?  They are losing.
The 5 guys on the court for Philly averaged a combined 5.6 points in the NBA last season.  So you'd expect that our crop of lotto picks should be able to dominate them.

And yes, losing this game would be an embarrassment.
meh, it's preseason
I trust Danny Ainge

As I speculated earlier in the thread when the starters brought them back, maybe they aren't as deep as we have been thinking.

I thought Smart played well, let the game come to him and didn't force bad shots. I will say he can hit clutch shots but not sure why you want him taking them?

Weak performances by Zeller, Jerebko and Hunter.  Really wished they had upgraded Zeller this off season.

No KO or Green. Not sure how "deep" they are but I think they are good 6-10+

I'm a little biased on him taking the last shot because he is my favorite player and I know he is capable of hitting big shots

Should we trade for him?
