he is fine at being a stretch 5, he would be one of the best in the league i might add IF:
1. he is able to stay healthy
2. would start playing any sort of defense on the block
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

KO is a perfect stretch 5 and I see that as the general direction in the NBA with Draymond Green as the prototype.  He can shoot and handle the ball.  I would still keep KO and see if he can fill this role.  If not, I wouldn't try to fit a square peg in a round hole and try him at SF.  Just move on in that case.

5, not a 3.

Needs to get stronger, not quicker.

If he can gain a lot of strength and confidence, I'd feel better about him at the 4.  Not a ton of 4s with a quickness advantage on him, but a lot of guys who can muscle their way ahead of him (especially 1st stringers).

At least if you play him at Center (more on the block) he's more likely to have the positioning against his opponent and can keep them from moving him with their strength.  Meanwhile, on the other end of the court, he's going to have a quickness advantage against most Centers (which is especially huge in transition) and he's probably the best shooting 5 in the game.  You're pretty much keeping your opponent's Center out of the paint at all times.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

The idea of KO trying to cover KD or Lebron or Melo is one that concerns me

Olynyk is a 'tweener player. He's a perimeter player in a 7 foot body. He can pass and shoot outside. That's about it, as far as I can tell. He isn't great around the basket because he can't get off his feet. I watched him one game for 10 minutes, and he never got off his feet! Even around the basket.  Those defense numbers I see quoted once in a while about him are an illusion. So much for quantifying defense. For big guys, it's rebounding and blocked shots.

I don't know what Ainge sees in this guy, other than being a 7 foot 3P shooter. He and Zeller are both weak defenders against other inside bigs around the league. Horford and Johnson are plus bigs, at least when Johnson shows up to play, but Sullinger was a better rebounder than KO and Zeller. Rebounding is their weakness, and they will miss him. I'm disappointed Ainge didn't draft a big who can jump, though Brown doesn't look like a bad pick. At least he can jump.

That is true but KO can shoot better, pass better as well.

Further ,I do not believe he will ever play defense down low.
Given that he already does... I don't know what to tell you.
