He's going to want somewhere around $20M being an offensively versatile big who can shoot in another rising cap.

I'm not sure that I'm ready to pay him that.

Dude no one is going to pay KO 20mil unless he has a crazy good year with little injury.

He started Sully who everyone knew had reached his ceiling , got fatter this not deserving of minutes. I'm not into the whole plus minus stuff but wasn't he high on this? Bringing him in consistently with a minute left in the 1st qtr to me was a disgrace. Injuries, true. What can you do. But to me, he always should have been starting last year. I'm not saying pay the guy s ridiculous amount but his value should have been higher and Stevens ( opinion) messed up here as he did with rozier giving him only garbage minutes until he was NEEDED and proved he deserved more than what he got.

Define Shoot?

Player is slow, cannot play D, has zero post up game and throws up more bricks than baskets. He is a backup player in this League at best. No way this Player is the answer at any starting position

Im gonna go ahead and define it as shooting 40% from deep which was the highest qualifying mark of any big in the entire league. and 75% from the stripe with career averages of 37 and 75 respectively. How exactly do you define shoot?

I think he meant a good 3 point shooter.

He's no rim protected but his d isn't terrible either. He is slow big has great handle and is s good passer. Nothing wrong with being a backup either. I think at least he should too out as a perennial 6 man candidate at least. Not saying that's worth 20 mil but there's always some team ..

Was 14th in the NBA in 3-point shooting.  He can shoot.

You're also missing the point.  Olynyk isn't the answer, but top reserves get paid $15-20 million now, and 7-footers who can pass and are amongst the top 3-point shooters in the league are top reserves if not starters.

Olynyk will get paid.  If it doesn't prevent the Celtics from getting a star free agent, and I don't think it will, then the Celtics should be the ones paying him.

big year for KO.

I don't think either sides are committed to a contract extension. Well KO side would be , if it was anywhere 15 million a year and up.

Don't think the Celts are shy to give that amount to KO but he has to show he can stay injury free

His conditioning coming into camp will be a big 1st step

It's too bad he got injured. He made a nice improvement from the previous year but about all I think we can expect is the same player from last year that is healthy.

I think the Celtics will stay with KO if he get back to his top form and show continued effort to get better.

He may look really bad coming back the first few months......till he regains the confidence to stress his injuries play full out .

I would think it will be late Dec.before he approaches his best game again.

I don't think a team will offer Olynyk 20 mil per. He's an RFA. If he gets a mammoth offer, let him go. But I don't think he'll get anything next summer.

Not a bad summary.

His team d is excellent, and undervalued, in my opinion, on this forum. He's a net plus, especially in a bench role where his exposure can be limited.

Brad Stevens lumps "bigs" together, but in practice Kelly is almost exclusively a center, where his defensive limitations are minimized, and where he pulls a big big away from the rim on offense.

I think he's a 7th or 8th man, "first big off the bench" type (not to minimize his uniqueness, which is an edge).  He's definitely not the classic 6th-man, i.e., a versatile scorer; then again, the Celtics pioneered the innovative use of guys like Paul Silas in the role.

If things go well for Boston, I look for Jaylen Brown to emerge as 6th-man after the trade deadline.
