Now we turn our eyes to Blake Griffin and Demarcus Cousins, I guess.

If it's not one of those guys, Celts will be waiting a while to get a chance at a top 10 talent.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.

We need a big more. Our Guards are only going to get better. I want to Boogie. He is all we need.

I think the main issue with Boogie is the kings are so starved for even making the playoffs I think they'll want trade pieces that can help them win now rather than picks and young guys.

So does an extension put any time limit on trading him like signing a new contract does, like December 15th or January 15th?

EDIT: I still don't necessarily think this means that he plans on staying or they aren't going to end up trading him.  They apparently couldn't get anything near his value due to his contract situation beforehand, so maybe this opens things up now. Or at the very least he's now much more tradable in the middle of the season when they're on the fringe of the playoffs and look to be nothing more than a first round exit.

Just noticed your question, but due to the extension, he cannot be traded for 6 months.  So if he signs today, February 4th.  That's in time for the trade deadline, although I expect a trade to occur no earlier than next summer (but I do expect it.)

I see why you would think that (and the Kings might just feel that way) but if this season starts looking like a wash again (very likely) who knows.  We can offer them some future hope to put front and center for their future that doesn't have the "baggage".

Personally not killed by this.  I am not a big Westbrook fan.

But the rumored offer was a steal.

All it means to me is that 1) he's off the market this summer, and 2) it gives OKC more leverage in deal making. The summer of 2017 will essentially be this summer, where RW will once again have 1 year left on his contract before he can opt out and be a FA. Seems more likely that he'll be traded next offseason, when the Thunder aren't reeling from the KD departure anymore.

I don't.  Once they decide to finally move off Boogie, it will be for youth.  The reason they're keeping him is because they're playoff starved.  If they decide to trade him, it will be that they concede they're not getting there any time soon.  Joerger gets half a season to get the current roster to win, and then when it can't, a total gutting of the roster will occur in February.  Their signings this offseason largely reflect that.  Afflalo and Tolliver both are signed to Amir/Zeller style 1+1 deals, for instance.  Gay is certainly opting out this offseason, just to get out of there.

But they're certainly going to try first.  Joerger has himself some gritty wings in Barnes and Afflalo in an effort to change the culture of the team.  He's a good coach -- it's not inconceivable that team wins this year.  I don't find it likely, but Memphis had no business making the playoffs last year, and he got them there.

Didn't want him to begin with so glad that option is gone for the time being.  OKC would've been asking for an arm & a leg and it would've gutted the heck of this rosters and/or future assets.

This also seems to screw the Lakers for the time being so also good in that respect.

I'm good with this signing.

One thing in our favor: Without Westbrook, the Thunder were one Olidipo injury away from challenging Brooklyn.

I get why he did it, but, unless he takes a Derek Rose nosedive, he almost assuredly will opt out of the last year of his deal (when he will get the 10+ yr max). This means he will be back in the same situation next summer, where teams won't want to deal all of their assets for one year of Westbrook.

Not entirely the same as the acquiring team can get him to commit to opt in, like Chris Paul did when the Clippers acquired him.

The number of teams with max salary space for a 10+ guy in 2018 will be a lot fewer than the number of teams with max space for a 9-year guy next summer.  There will be fewer suitors to compete with in free agency.  I don't think Sacramento should trade for him, but if you're a major market with a reputation for being generally competitive, you probably won't lose him.
