What is W.A.R?

Wins above replacement

More importantly, what is it good for?

[/obligatory]

TP, had to read that twice before seeing it.

Cautiously optimistic about Smart.

Look at guys like Dwyane Wade and LeBron when they were on the Heat.Their field goal percentages kept getting higher the older and more mature they became.

Is 15 PPG on 43, 36, 80 really such a pipe dream? Maybe his Team USA experience can help bring him to the next level. Who knows about the killer Instinct but he does seem to at least possess the aggressive mindset and a quiet confidence.

I wonder how heavily WAR factors charges drawn? Seems like it'd be a valuable outcome from an analytics perspective.

Based on those shooting percentages, he would need to take 12-15 shoots depending on how many 3s and FTs.  That seems like too many for him.

Fivethirtyeights analysis is based off of plus/minus numbers (terribly noisy stats that are not very good) and quite frankly some arbitrary picked stats that even includes their age, height and weight (more weight the better??) as equal to rbds and efg% (although TS% is much better). CARMELO is what WAR is based off of. If you want to see good statistical analysis visit boxscoregeeks.com. Wins Produced used regression analysis of the entire box score and is positionally adjusted very elegantly
