The team as is has a rebounding problem so that has to be addressed or they're going to get overpowered by teams that can offensive rebound - just like last season.  Bringing Zeller back won't solve it.

But I'd also like to not have to move any core players if they can help it.

The thing is our rebounding problem isn't that we aren't capable of getting rebounds. It's that we aren't positioning ourselves well enough to get them.

Let's get one thing out of the way, the Drummonds and Thompsons of the world are always going to outrebound us, so let's focus on beating them with our strengths not by competing with theirs.

What we can do without roster changes is box out better, find our man when the shot goes up. There are too many occasions where one opponent slides between 3 Celtics. This is remedied through practice and court awareness.

If we want to make a roster change there are 2 scenarios:

A) bring in a starter to supersede Amir. If we do this then we are almost certainly giving up some of our perimeter defense, which is currently a strength.

B) bring in a rebounder for the bench. This is where I see someone like Bogut helping. He is basically D Lee with defense. But I'm not giving up anyone close to the rotation for him. Any of Zeller, Mickey and Young can be included, as well as 2nd round picks. But nothing of worth.

But don't fix one "problem" just to create another, we'll end up in a worse position.

There is a lot of fan attachment here for role players on the team.  Do we really have an untouchable asset?

Horford, IT, and the 17 nets pick (this one is untouchable because we'll never get any reasonable deal for it, teams would always want to rip us off)
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Smart, Rozier and Brown are going to be better than ET and get an opportunity.
Smart was repeatedly given the opportunity to take control of the second unit and we had to revert to Turner every time because he ended up so patently awful. Rozier better be ready.

Smart has shown a lot of improvement as a point guard. Maybe if Kozlodoev also works hard, he may someday write more accurate comments?

His negativity towards the team is the sort that a good chunk of the fan base are tired of. It is the kind of negativity which led to Crowder's meltdown.

I guess add seven wins to how many Kozlodoev thinks we should win and that might be a good prediction. For last year, he thought we'd end up at .500 instead of a 48 win team. This year he thought we would win 50 games? So, it looks like we should end up at 57-25 or due to all the early injuries, let's say 55-27, since he mocked the thought of us hitting that number. We'd have to go 34-13 the rest of the way. That would be a 72% winning percentage or a 59 win season rate.

I've lost track of what our record is when our top guys are healthy. If I had to guess, I'm pretty sure it is close to a 60 win pace.

Seinfeld was all about nothing? Maybe take the opposite position of whatever Koz writes? I think that would be based on a different Seinfeld episode but possibly might be a predictive system which can compete with Nate Silver's.

By the way, I predicted 65 wins as a best case scenario. It was my form of hyperbole to try to counterbalance the excessive, irrational negativity.

I'm not saying let's all be Stuart Smalley and see nothing but sunshine and roses, but excessive negativity is also not the true picture.

I think Ainge will ultimately deal those Nets picks. I can't see him taking on more 19yos on this roster. They require at least 2 years development time. And Horford, a key player, is at the 30 stage. He's got one 19yo, Brown, who looks good so far.

I think he's just waiting for the right opportunity to dump those Nets picks. It's a question of when and what the opportunity will be.

I think we have an opportunity to open two championship windows simultaneously.

We have the $$ this offseason to add one more starter to go with Thomas, Bradley, Crowder, Horford.

Why not just sign Ibaka/Millsap and try our best to contend while Smart, Brown and the 2 BKN picks develop?

Our prospects will get rare opportunity to gain play experience as deep as the ECF or maybe even the NBA Finals.

It's an intriguing route to go down.

I think the only people not on the block are Horford and IT. Everyone else is fair game for one reason or another.

Remember the "I'm going to stop watching the C's because we traded Big Al" crowd? Yeah....

Boy, you are not kidding.

And yet everyone here is willing to trade the role players....You're the one who has been complaining about us not offering enough picks...

Strongly suspect we don't have the pieces to pay what will eventually land Butler, so it's pointless to talk about trading all the role players and picks that Ainge is going to turn into Banner 18.

Amiright?

Then I suspect we're going to find out if he really likes Butler, because I'd be STUNNED if the conversation doesn't begin with those Nets picks.

That's begin. Not end.

The C's are currently holding onto a few players that have no future here.

As long as Smart is around Rozier will get fewer and fewer minutes at point guard. IMO I don't feel the Celtics should even consider signing Kelly Olynyk for anything other than team friendly money. The C's find no minutes for James Young either. Mickey?

If you can grab a center on sale, for a few low level draft picks, and players that don't have a realistic future here, the Celtics should do it.

That's a lot closer to what I suspect will happen - a "rent a Bogut" deal, so to speak.

So do nothing.

Sign a free agent over the summer, lock up IT and AB.  Make the picks.

Have a good team and a good future at the same time: basically be Toronto + Minnesota.  Is that so horrible?
