On the bright side, this only emphasizes how valuable that Nets pick is going to be.

The Bulls were in a position of power. They have a Top 20 player and were inclined to keep him through a rebuild kind of like the Pacers and PG or us and Rondo.

If I'm not selling my car, but you offer to buy it anyway, I'm going to set a high price (as most people would); as opposed to me actively selling my car, in which case, I'll set the price at market value.

I'm glad DA has been empowered (through the extension) because holding fast was the way to go. If Danny has nailed (although everyone wants to jump the gun and place ceilings on players that are young and still developing,it's stupid to make firm judgements on players that have yet to get throught their first NBA contract (see Avery Bradley's career arch)) and nails these next few drafts, he can really put this team in position for long term contender status; trading those picks for a Player could be the difference between contending for 1 year (rental bolts after year) or 15 (draft picks pan out).

A Butler acquisition (at this price) should have only been considered/negotiated if it was going to be done deal with KD. Worst case scenario (neither Olynyk, Smart, Rozier, nor Brown take a step forward this year), this trade can be revisited in a year if another star signs through FA next year.

Too much.

But Ainge messed up the 3rd pick as well. Should have drafted Kris Dunn and traded a guard.
Brown is better than Dunn was at 19. I expect him to be better at 22 as well.

And Avery Bradley was ranked higher than John Wall coming out of high school, iirc.  What's your point?

his point is that Brown is better at 19 than dunn was at 19. And if brown continues to develop at the pace he has, then brown three years from now will be better than dunn now.

Dunn 3 years from now will already be 25

Brown has a long way to go, but he's got plenty of time to get there
I trust Danny Ainge

You can't deal yourself out of the first round for two consecutive years. We're very far removed from that.

Draft picks can not be traded in consecutive years, however our #3 was from Brooklyn so it doesnt count towards the limit. Even still, if there were a trade Boston would have made the selection for Chicago; therefor technically counting as a Boston pick, leaving Boston the opportunity to trade next years pick.

You cannot have zero first round picks in consecutive drafts in the future.  So we could not trade the swap and also trade the 2018 Brooklyn pick and our own 2018 pick without getting a guaranteed pick in return in one of those two years.  Since the recent draft has already occurred, we could trade all of our picks from it, as well as the Brooklyn swap, and still be within the rules.

Brown will be better than Dunn. So Ainge did the correct thing.

Pretty much this. Brown in 2-3 years will be better than Butler, so the Bulls can shove it.
And pretty much this!
Well, either that or he'll be worse than Kedrick Brown.

He'd have to suffer some freak injury or sudden obesity or a meth addiction or get killed by a meteor  to be worse than Kedrick. If healthy, there are ZERO out of INFINITE future universes where Jaylen Brown winds up worse than Kedrick.
He's already had worse SL than Kedrick Brown did so there's that.

Are you going by stats, the eye test, or a bit of both?  I only ask because I wasn't yet a Celtic fan, then, and while I know that he was an atrocious pick and was seen as quite the reach at the time because he was going from junior college to the NBA, iirc, the only footage I've been able to find of him is this dunk against the Pistons on YouTube, which I take it is probably a good thing, lol ;D -

Oh Tommy, ahahaha ;D. Wow. As bad as that is, though, I don't think anything can ever top his assertion that, "Tony Battie is a lot like Tim Duncan," on draft night in 1997, iirc, lol.  I love Tommy, but he's a great company man, imo.

That just because a guy is better than someone else at an earlier stage of their development as both a person and a player doesn't mean that that will continue in the pros.  Jimmy Butler wasn't highly recruited and went to junior college before winding up at Marquette.  Paul George was a late bloomer who attended Fresno State.  Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were both mid major stars, etc.

Plus, the Celtics' front office maintained the belief that, had James Young gone back to school for his sophomore season, that he would have been a top 10 pick in said draft ::). Give me a break.

Yeah, let's not go down that road, because then we might have to bring up what beliefs the Celtics' front office maintained about Telfair :)

*facepalm* Did you know that he has a brother, Ethan Telfair, btw?  He'll be a senior next year for Idaho State.  Great 3pt and ft percentages, in addition to an impressive 2.4 spg, but his overall fg% is crappy, lol ;D. I only found out about him via some forum posters on nbadraft.net.  I'm not a member, there, but those guys know their stuff.  It always seems like they have a new thread or two every week during the college basketball season about some under-the-radar guy.  I never would have known who Pascal Siakam was without them, lol ;D.

If this was actually the price of Butler then it was pretty irresponsible of them to say "Butler is available."

The next time they make someone available Danny needs to not call them. They can call us.
they never said Butler was available.
