For me, getting stuck with Horford assures us we'll never beat gs in a series so that's why I'd consider bringing Westbrook in at s shot at beating the cavs. The only reason I wanted Horford was to get Durant. I've been called dumb here and other places just for asking if it was possible to now move Horford. I realise how that could look but I think maxing horford( even though I can't blame the celts for swinging for the fences) is going to be why we have no chance at beating gs in a series.
Anything is possible and mind you, this is just an opinion. So anyone getting really angry at this viewpoint I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm not trying to upset anybody and it's clearly a tiny, tiny, minority opinion.

If I'm wrong and we somehow can contend I'll be thrilled though. Believe me. I would be ecstatic to be wrong.

I can't see this happening.

According to everything made public so far, Westbrook wants to be in L.A. next season.

And I think trading for him, with the hope of convincing him to sign a long-term deal with Boston, is a risk far too great and irresponsible.

You won't hear any condemnation from me. Nothing wrong with asking questions. :D

Yeah I also strongly disagree with that opinion but to each his own. However that makes the rest of your post even more baffling.

If you think we dont have a chance to win a championship wouldnt you want to hold on to what is likely a top 5 pick next year and conservatively a lotto pick the next? Theres no way we get Russ without giving up at least one of those.

What am I missing. You dont believe the next few years we will be contenders no matter what, so you plan to mortgage the future so we can still not be contenders? sounds absurd to me.

It would be interesting to see us try to swing both deals being rumored, considering we have to match salaries.

Jaylen Brown, Amir Johnson, Clippers 1st, Memphis 1st for Westbrook
Avery Bradley, James Young, Jonas Jerebko, RJ Hunter, BRK 18 for Blake Griffin

Lineup: Westbrook, Smart, Crowder, Griffin, Horford
Bench: IT, Rozier, KO, Mickey, Bentil/Yabusele, Zeller?

We'd basically have 2 Uber-athletic stars (Westbrook + Griffin), 2 blue collar guys (Smart + Crowder), the all-round guy (Horford), 2 spark plugs (IT and Rozier), 2 bench bigs (KO and Zeller), and then rookies/filler.

And we still have the BRK17 pick =).

I dont doubt it at all that LA would be the favorite, but people seem to be acting like its a foregone conclusion to sign Russ. This is a Lakers team that in all likelihood will not be coming off a playoff appearance, so Russ must have indicated or as you wrote made something public indicating he wanted to be in LA.

Do you have any sources other than just rampant speculation?

Again, I dont doubt it, but everyone is acting like Russ is gone to LA, but Ive yet to see any reason why other than that hes a big personality and is from LA.

Can we trade Celtics '17 pick without jeopardizing in the Brooklyn swap rights?

Yeah, count me as someone that doesn't agree at all.  DA is trying to build a team here.  Many ways to do that; can't just expect it to happen all in one feel swoop like it did the last time.  Hitting the reset button would be very counterproductive, especially since we could hit on another player (through the draft, a trade, free agency) before you know it.  And where would we be if we got rid of good players?

If we trade the pick, the swap rights go with it.  So whoever receives it will have the same swap option that we currently have.

I thought this post was interesting. It essentially states that if we extend Russ this summer he could make more money on the life of the deal than if he signs a max deal when he becomes a free agent.

Whatever we do Danny PLEASE don't change this team's DEFENSIVE outlook - no matter WHO we bring in here.

I love Westbrook but I'm a bit anxious to see what we MAY have to give up to get him....and IF we get him who do we have left?

I trust Danny, though. I remember us nearly gutting the team in summer of 2007 too - nearly 10 years ago (H/T to Poster Neurotic Guy for his thread about 10 year Celtic Team changes). It IS about that time for Boston.

As much as I was excited to get KG, I had reservations about team going forward. Those reservations were moot as I watched with glee as we demolished none other than the Los Angeles Lakers in Summer of 08.

The big difference then - to me - was that the team PRIOR to KG and Ray's arrival was collecting assets BUT a 24-58 team. "This" team NOW with Big Al added is a 52-57 win team AND has made playoffs last two years - and GREAT defensively right now. We have an identity RIGHT NOW.

Please tread lightly, Danny.

I’m hearing that the Westbrook to Boston deal is basically in place and now just waiting on the final details to be worked out.

Does anybody know who this guy is or how credible he is? Jeff?
