this kid is very special not just for dunking the ball,-my problem is that jaylen will outgrow basketball the money, the fame  the travelling and he starts to question, who he is
bill russell made a statement as a man that transcends his ability to put a ball in a hoop, remember dave cowens took a year off and drove a cab
the focus of reaching a goal and love of the sport may not be enough someday to hold him as he reaches his personal goals in basketball--
danny ainge and brad stevens could not be better mentors to this gifted young man and boston is the perfect place for him to have been drafted with all its students and access to higher learning
then the team a combination of youthful drive and aggression on defense and addition of horford as a roll model, even kelly with his big kid mentality and isaiah so friendly but competitive on court-jaylen reminds me of that kid that got to play with the greats in Field of Dreams and went off to become a doctor-this is going to be an interesting story to watch

kek. Rollie, I also used to believe in this story about Cowens until I saw him in an interview explaining what really happened. If interested I can PM you the vid.

This board got crazy. I don't remember the titles exactly, but there are a lot of threads basically saying Jaylen Brown Sucks, Danny Is Incompetent at Drafting, Jaylen Brown is M.L. Carr 2.0, that sort of thing.

It feels as if a lot of Celtics fans are hoping for the worst because they enjoy whining and feeling miserable. Not me. The NBA is a harsh and unfair world, but the Celtics are definitely part of the haves, not the have nots.

This is an interesting thread from Rollie. It makes me think of Barry Sanders who retired early. There was some famous play in which the kid didn't want to box and wanted to play violin instead. It's called Golden Boy by Clifford Odets. These people are not robots.

I love Bill Russell. I'm glad he forgave Boston or isn't too bitter considering all the bad stuff he went through. I love his philosophy that he is a man who played basketball.

Quote
DENVER — Back in his playing days, Bill Russell was standing in an airport with Boston Celtics teammate John Havlicek, when a stranger walked up and asked the inevitable question.

"Say, are you a basketball player?"

"No, I am not," the towering, 6 ft., 9 in. center responded. Later, Havlicek asked him why he always said that. "Because that's not who I am," Russell replied. "Basketball is what I do; it's not who I am."

He drove a cab for one night with his buddy as a social experiment, no?

it is still a cute story.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Great stuff, Rollie.
We have a bad habit of defying athletes and then tearing them down. The thing about life is no one gets out of here alive......
Let's hope that the NBA is kinder to Jalen Brown than the NFL was to Rickey Williams. We need to appreciate these professional athletes as their fans, but understand they are just people.

That's fine if Jaylen wants to drive for Uber in the off-season.

yeah, sounds like for his personality Boston will be a good fit. That can only help his overall development as a player I'd think . sounds like he'll be happy here - that can probably go a long way.

  • Celtic's only raise championship Banners
I think we all wanted a proven player, even if they had just finished their rookie season, because we had been striking out in the draft/picking project players. Even the players we drafted to help us right away have turned into project players.
Also, we all rooted for the celt's to get the best pick they could during the season and lottery, but in the end it would not have mattered if we ended up with the 6th pick because Jaylen would have been at 6(earliest is #5) but we used the #3 on him instead of trading down and selecting Jaylen with the #5 or even the #6

Personally, it's my opinion that DA did a horrible job in this draft. Jaylen Brown was most def available @ #5 or even later, and we should have selected Dunn and then traded down or traded Dunn. Look at Stanley Johnson, Henzonja, or Justise Winslow.....were any of them worth the #3 pick this year? Because they are more or less comparable and maybe we should have traded separately for one of them bc the ask would have been less than what the #3 could get us.

Also now we know that the #3 (or Dunn) was on the table for Okafor straight up, and DA decided to select Jaylen.
Things we could have done to get equal or more value:
- #3(Dunn) for Okafor
-#3(Dunn) and #16 for Zach Lavine and the #5(select Jaylen or trade #5(Hield) for Okafor)
-#3 for #5,#6 or #7 and future first unprotected

And what makes you so sure that Pheonix would have drafted Bender if Jaylen were still available?

Does this mean that Dave Cowens was the George Plimpton of the professional cabbie circuit?  ;)
